I'v experienced lag from time to time. In event's like the Crierle I lost a cruiser due to a combo of overconfidence in dual mwd's to save the day and then a total 30 sec lagout. I lost a cruiser and a full set of implants+clone to lag on a lvl3 missison, again due to a combo of "just a few more hit's and I have that damn Inferno" and a bunch of lag just when I needed to speedbost from the mwd's to escape the 8 cruise heading my way. laaag.
Lately some on and off lag spikes while hunting. 1-2 minutes of neither part doing any dmg. Mega+drones vs 7 frigates 2cruisers at a few km/s range.
Add to that a "sick system" where none of the 7-8 ppl in local could target NPC's or each other. We left the system alone after that one.
Loosing a ship / implants / clones due to lag sucks, but there seems to be little to do about it. From what I see in my logs, even on a good day far from all shots are shown in your logs. Neither ingame or the log's stored in your eve-dir. If the GM's can only see what we can see, there's not really any way to distinguish between lag and "I started warping to the mission bm, forgot about it and went to the fridge for a beer. Came back, ship was dead"
As things are atm with autowarp. Launch your drones, hit your Shield booster+hardeners etc and hope to survive the two minutes until your ship disappears. If you are scrambled you won't autowarp out. Set your AP to somewhere if you can, and enable it.
Now comes the hard part. WAIT. At least 5-10 minutes to let the npc's move away from your position and hopefully from the belt all-together.

I suggest doing lvl3 agent kill missions in a Kestrel, with heavy missiles if you don't want to waste money on cruise missiles. It's economical, fast, and safe

Before you get a cruiser you should have a fleet of frigs and haulers as it will take you time to even have the correct skill to do a cruiser justice.
Before you get a battleship you should have a fleet of frigs, haulers and cruisers as it will take you time to even have the correct skill to do a battleship justice.
If you follow those rules you will not be left high and dry when you lose your first (whatever it is). I've lost so many ships my first day of ownership because I thought the ship could handle more than it could. But I always had a bunch of ships to fall back on and make money with.
And my first cruiser, a Rax, I never lost. Not once. This is because when it was my only cruiser I realized that losing it would be a big hit to my productivety. So I just used that sled for mining in areas where a few medium drones could kill any NPCs that spawned. I was smart about how I used the ship. I only took worthless ships out mining in tough areas.
Also a good rule of thumb is not take your BS into risky situations until you are halfway to getting another BS. Then when you lose the first BS, even with basic insurance, you will be 1/3 of the way to a new one.
Additionally, it's just a game. It's just a game. IT'S JUST A GAME. Did you not have fun during that seven months you spent earning the Arma? ****, I'd guess you had more fun in that seven months than you did in the time after you got the Arma (given the fact that you blew it up almost imediately).
Lastly, you say you will not spend another seven months trying to replace it. Are you telling me that the Arma was going to be the last BS you ever got? I mean it's a decent ship but you didn't ever want to get into a tier2 BS like an Apoc or something? You are just mad now. Losing a ship causes a brief time of irrational anger. The more ships you lose the smaller that time will become. Pretty soon when you lose a ship you might not even ***** about it on the forums.

im going ot have to agree with the lag being absurd past couple weeks. seeing as though my megathron is only 70% insured and im fairly broke isk wise i quit doing agent missions for fear of lag or the soundblaster drivers casuing my computer to reboot in the middle of a fight... been flying a rifter ever since
When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear. -jack handy |

btw, thanks for the replies. I guess I was feeling a little bit winded from the whole "losing your biggest investment" experience and need to vent. Next time I'm feeling the lag coming on I'll use some of the suggestions and hopefully get my next bs through it in one piece.

Wouldn't worry too much, I was doing lvl 3 missions in my first battleship, I spent 3 months working to get to this level and....
I got bored within a week and sold the Dominix and decided I could have more fun with cruisers. It's very easy to do lvl 3 missions (all of them) with a couple of cruisers, and some frigates for fun.
I use a blackbird for all my kill missions. I am having so much more fun now, time to try and get a elite frigate now, but first lets play with some drones!
Can't think of anything witty to put here. |

Can I ask about your cruiser setup that you found most effective?

Sure the blackbird I currently use for my lvl 3 Navy missions is:
High:
1x 250mm Rail (tungsten & Iridium charges) 3X Heavy Missle Launchers
For the nasty rats, like the 85k Olfumi (I always spell that wrong), I hit them with a volly of EM and thermal torps then finish them with Havoc Heavy missles. I also carry Thunderbolts, widowmakers, and the kinetic heavy missles. I carry some defenders on board when I think I will have a lot of missles thrown at me. The rail will keep the shields from recharging inbetween missle volleys, or you could fire them off in a sequence.
Medium
1X Medium Shield Booster 1X Thermal Shield Hardner 1X EM Shield Hardner 1X Kinetic Shield Hardner 1X 10MN Micro warp drive 1X Medium Shield Extender
The type of hardners used depends on who you are flying against, Guristas do thermal and kinetic, as do serpentis. So The hardners mean they hit but do very little damage.
Low
1X Power Diag 1X Warp Core Stabiliser
Basically this is a NPC mission only setup. I wouldn't reccomend it for anything else.
The tactics used are:
Weaker enemies, warp in at 40k, then hit them with the rail and heavy missles, choosing to orbit the last target you will engage. Heavy missles have a base range of about 45K.
Harder (85K rats), warp in at 60K, point your tail at them and fly at max speed directly away from them, pick the hardest target throw some EM torps at them, follow with the explosive or thermal torps, then finish them with the rail and heavy missles.
You will find the named rats, will catch a black bird, if they get real close then use the MWD to increase the gap. Always paying attention to your cap.
Watch out for rogue pirate escorts (35k) Amarr Augorers, at anything up to 30K they will eat you alive. Three of them destroyed my Moa in a matter of a minute. Then I decided to play with the black bird and it's worked ever since.

Here is what I just did to fix the lag... I cancelled my subscription. I have lost two Ravens in the last two weeks fully decked out with tech II stuff. It took me a long time to build up to them and I get blown up first in a LVL 3 mission and then two weeks later in a LVL 4 mission because I am not able to do anything. Once I finally warp in, I am already blown up. This program sucks. So the best way to solve the lag is to quit. I will take my $20 a month US, and play a different game. Taurus 6345 signing out... for good!

he didn't even offer us his stuff :(
this reminds me of ppl that call me at work all day complaining about our network when they dont have their own firewall setup correctly or dont bother to purchase enough bandwidth to feed their 5000 youtube junky employees
gonna have to guess this was his issue, not ccps. fix your network, lose the dialup connection, stop buying eMachine gaming boxes, take your pick (he didn't even bother to petition i bet, as the dinosaur of a thread he resurrected suggests)

Wow, how the hell do you people even FIND these old threads to post in?
Kind of amusing though, reading through what seems like a perfectly reasonable 2006 post, and then seeing a line about "use heavy missiles on your Kestrel if cruise missiles are too expensive." Can we necromance cruise-Kestrels back along with the old thread?
