Since getting into an interceptor I've really noticed just how clunky the current UI is for fighting. The pace of frig combat is so fast that we really need some changes. They don't even need to be big changes.
Picture this example:
- Warp to a spot. Enemy spotted 40km away.
- Right click and navigate the menu to orbit.
- I hit MWD ALT+F1 for a 2 cycle burst.
- Open my drone bay, right click & select all.
- Right click on target several times trying to lock target just as I get into locking range.
- ALT+F1 to disable MWD.
- ALT+F2 to scramble or Web
- Right click on drones and launch as I'm in range, at the same time hitting F1,F2,F3 to open fire.
- I start taking damage so ALT+F3 to turn on shield booster.
- Damage is getting bad so time to to warp out, right click sub menu sub menu...damn scrabled.
- Ok use MWD to get out of range so I can warp... you guessed it stretch those hands to ALT+F1
- While warping out time to run that armour repair CTRL+F3.
All this can happen in about 10 seconds. The pace is fantastic but ouch all that desperate right clicking and stretching across the keyboard to use CTRL/ALT+F keys is fiddly not to mention bad for the hands. *poor hands*
What we need is the ability to SEE all our actionable modules status at once. The split list of High/Med/Low is terrible. I've lost count of the number of times that I've run out of cap because a module hasn't turned off due to lag and I've not noticed because its icon is on a different view of the control circle.
Why does the key remapping system insist that we use ALT, CTRL or SHIFT for new mappings. I'm in a frigate I can fit ALL of my toggleable modules in F1-F8 but it wont let me. We also need to be able to map more commands to keys and please get rid of the ALT/CTRL/SHIFT insistence.
Why not let us USE ALT+Click, SHIFT+Click and CTRL+Click to action commands as well and let us define what we want those to do. e.g. I could define ALT+Click to orbit target at 2.5km. CTL+Click to approach and CTRL+Click to lock target.
This would also be great for non PvP types. Imagine being able to define CTRL+Click to mine, ALT+Click to command drones to mine repeatedly and SHIFT+Click for open cargo can.
Even just these simple changes could really really help smooth out the UI.

Edited by: voogru on 30/03/2004 04:59:09 I really like these suggestions.
Would also be nice to have a smart UI, for example, right click menu (instead of the one we have now) would give you a list of all of your modules, with most used modules on top. Clicking on them will activate/deactivate them, double clicking on them will activate all modules of that type (ie, double click on one jammer, all jammers go active).
More importantly, it should have nice, big fancy icons, so we have a less chance of clicking on the wrong modules.
Would be really nice ------- Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Guardian Enforcer, wrecking for 827.3 damage. |

I like your suggestions... one way you can get around the target right click is by firing a weapon without a target locked, you will get a crosshair and can select the target you want to lock, once lock is aquired you have to fire the gun again to start shooting.
Your 280mm 'Scout' Artillery I perfectly strikes Sansha's Scavenger, wrecking for 264.3 damage.

Yeah control is definetly one of eve's shortcomings.
I especially hate when im clicking around objects just looking around and suddenly my ship goes off in that direction, without me double clicking even.
There should be a key to press and then a click to move your ship to that location. ________________________________________________________

Some very good points. Frigate combat is so fast, one of the main reasons I love it infact, but it can be a little too fast sometimes. The main problem I have is having to manually reload my missile launchers. Just this simple task is perhaps the most time consuming thing in the entire fight. It also doesn't help when the UI randomly forgets to display 'reload' so you then have to pick your missiles from the list. Oh, it also randomly forgets to actually reload some launchers if you click too quickly.
