Since the whole game runs off a single huge server, I assume that any GTC works on any account? Seems odd, though, because due to exchange rates it works out (in the UK at least) 50% more expensive paying for either GTCs or an on-site subscription in EU than buying GTCs in USD from one of the American sites...
That is to say:
Monthly subscription = EUR 15.00 = GBP 12.00 But 30-day gamecard = USD 15.00 = GBP 8.00
Roughly, anyway. Even more confusingly, some of the European sites seem to sell 50/100 day cards, as opposed to the 30/90 day ones on the US sites, but the cost-per-day works out consistently around 50% more expensive - and even when converting straight from USD to EUR...
Am I missing something here, or are Europeans (at least, ones without a credit card and/or the impetus to look up exchange rates) getting the shaft? And why would anyone set up a direct subscription through the official site when they're basically paying extra for the privelege?

VAT is 50% now?
Oh well, I guess that the GTC prices were pretty much fixed when the game started, and the difference in costs now is largely down to exchange rate fluctuations. As long as a US-bought code will work, that's all I care about, just feel kind of bad for people paying extra from not picking up on this kind of thing...

Nope, but the EUR price does include VAT, which accounts for some of the difference.

Correct

Noone is paying extra. Some people are paying too little. Good for them; but it does cost CCP money and if so many people start doing it that it hurts CCPs pockets too much, no doubt they'll do something about it (like raising all USD prices). Also depending on where you live in Europe you may have to pay the VAT anyway (seperately).

haha, thats funny, 2.8mil USD a month gross is more then needed to run servers and pay everyone. and thats an understatement.
If I can do it, so can you! If you choose not to, your fault, not mine! Stop Spamming the T1 Nerf Torp CCP. Invent a T2 boost Torp and use it! Balance is Important, EVE still being fun, Priceles |

Edited by: NightF0x on 09/02/2008 17:37:25 Many years ago, CCP set the price of the game at $15 USD. This was back when the exchange rate was closer to a difference that covered what the UK had to pay in their VAT. Over the years the US dollar has slipped and isn't worth as much compared to the Euro. AFAIK, CCP doesn't plan to change their subscription rates to account for daily exchange rate fluctuations. So basically pay or don't pay...your choice. ------------------------------------

I have no idea of the expenses, running costs, salaries, whatever of CCP. I do know that "2.8mil USD" is is about 20% less than "1.4mil USD and 1.4mil EUR" and that having 20% less revenue will affect any company significantly.
