Edited by: Trigger Mortis on 09/02/2008 11:36:46 hi, i as just harrased on the doorstep by the local jehova witness clan, who proceeded to hand me leaflets. As it was dt i thought i woul look it up on wikipeadia for something to do .
after following a couple of link i came upon this :
Early transcriptions of יהוה similar to "Jehovah" Ιεωα: (Ieōa, /ˈj:oʊɐ/) in Hellenistic magical texts #
would this be where the jovians get their name ? discuss .
the ˈj:oʊɐ part caught my eye

Jove - alternate formation of the name "Jupiter", first among the Roman gods. You're possibly familiar with his namesake planet. It's in the Sol system, if you're not placing it.

I always thought they got their name from the Jovian planets (other name for Jupiter like planets, gas giants). Linkage

This. Jovian is the adjectival form of Jupiter. So, in essence, Jovian = Jupiterian

OMG it would be brilliant, you could lock people down and as opposed to ransoming/killing them you could bore the player themselves to death by preaching at them!

I made this sig almost a year ago. I never did use it because I figured it would probably get nerfed.
Anyway, your thread reminded me of it... So yeah. There it is.
But of course now you're just reading my sig...

The words Jove and Zeus have links to words used to describe the judeo-christian deity today. Don't read too much into it, they're just names that were given by people. Rather like Martin Luther (iirc) made up the name Hell. Before then there were multiple names from different languages being used. Yes he did indeed borrow the name from a norse figure. ---- Anything less is wasted effort |

As well as the name of the underworld where those cowardly weaklings who didn't die in battle ended up. Similar to Hades as deity and place.
Anyway, I've been thinking about the name Jove and pre-Eve history. Maybe they existed on the other side of the gate, and for some reason could continue to advance after the collapse of the gate. Maybe they were undisturbed because they caused the whole thing...

It is more likely their name comes from Jove referring to the God Jupiter or ultimately the planet, just like Terra is also the name of Earth. With that in mind while Terrains would be Earthlings, Jovens would likely be from Jupiter in one sense or another. +++++++++++++++ For the LAST time... if you want to be rid of the JW's try telling them you are a catholic which i'm told is fairly reliable. i haven't seen a JW on my doorstep since the day i told them i was a satanist and asked them how much for the blonde girl. amazing what happens when you wake me 3 hours after i went to bed isn't it.

Wrong.
In norse mythology Hel is both the name of the lowest of the 9 worlds, and of the goddess Hel. Hel the location is where all those who die of sickness or old age are sent, and where those who were oathbreakers or betrayors are punished until Ragnarok.
So no, Martin Luther didn't make up the name Hell to refer to an underworld.

They all descend from the ancient one known as Bon Jovi. Their disease originated from being forced to listen to yet another greatest hits album that still just featured the same 10 songs from Slippery When Wet.
