Well I'm curious how much pirates can earn out of piracy. Quite new to EVE. So still looking for the path to go. I like carebearing just relaxt gaming. But I also like to have a bit of tension to the game.
I've heard of ransoming. Gatecamping. Just killing for fun. You guys also loot ppl?
So I have got a few questions for the pirates among us.
What is the chance that u come across a good ship with good fittings? Or an Hauler with some good cargo in it? Does it happen frequently or do u have to have MUCH GRANDO luck for it? Does it require HARDCORE gaming of sitting behind your desk 23/7? Or can u also do it like 2 to 3 hours a day? [I know u got more ISK by doin it 23/7]
Well a few questions of a... laid back player.

Edited by: General Coochie on 09/02/2008 14:20:18 I have been pretty laid back lately. And probing mission runners has given me enough isk to pay for GTC last couple of months. Since November I think Ive made about 3bill pirating. Wheres 1.5 bill is from a single CNR kill. a lot mission runners are rigged which means about 40mill just there in a ransom. Finding ppl that can be ransomed for a nice healthy amount of isk in missions happens often.
Key to make isk as a pirate is ransoming, cause you always make more isk ransoming then looting.
I haven't gate camped much in my career but theres lots of isk to be had, freighters and haulers moving through low sec happens, you gotta be lucky though, not only finding someone hauling something expensive, but if you are popping him it also has to survive the pop.
The average noob in belt doesn't give much isk not in loot nor in ransoms, enough to keep you going but not more.
Also make sure you fly something that either is cheap to loose or very hard to loose. Pirating in a T2 ship and loosing one a week won't put you on the + side exactly.

You are talking about a CNR whats that exactly? And Probing missions runners how do you do it. Like I said im kinda new so I dont know much of those shortcuts. And eve terms. No disrespect though

You will almost certainly never find anything of worth roaming low sec belts. Find targets that are in low sec encounter sites (Found using your onboard scanner) or use a covert ops to scan out a ship currently engaged in a mission.
It's a long haul now. I've made about a bil in the last couple of days just fragging CNR's and other BS's in missions in low sec area's. That being said I do use two characters to do it. (One Covert Ops probing the mission locations and a Megathron for killing them).
You can attempt to ransom these people, but more often than not, they will have backup nearby, so best bet is to kill them, scoop the loot and run away before the inevitable 3 battleships show up to frag you.
I litterally spent only 4 or 5 hours doing this whole process, the rest of the time i'm either idling in a station talking to friends or AFK doing something else. As long as you stake out an area for an hour or so before hand and identify potential targets, assess any other threats in the area you should be fine. -----

Alright. So you actually have to fly a big ship? And be with a gang or can It also be done solo? The ship I can fly in a while is a Wolf and Jag. the biggest ship I can fly right now is a Cruiser. Not even fitted with t2 proj tur. I only have 2 mil sp so it will take a while before I can get the hand on low sec mission runners?

Well, if you want to ransom battleships, it might be troublesome doing it by yourself. Get some wingmen, maybe someone with a Blackbird and someone else in a cruiser for some damage. You'll definately need to have someone that can scan out mission sites as well. A properly set up small gang should be able to ransom a battleship with little trouble. 2m SP is too little to effectively do it solo, you'll end up losing more than you gain. -----

Edited by: General Coochie on 09/02/2008 15:41:51 No you don't need to have a lot of SP to do it. But solo its pretty hard, although doable in some cases.
The ship "probe" is excellent for probing, takes less then a week to start using exploration probes (quests etc) to use it efficiently.
For tackling as a noob I would probably use a celestis, dampeners and a disruptor. Keep outside his lock range 22-23km. Use your drones to make his tank fail. Those extra 100dps really is enough in some cases (especially vs BCs). The damps also stop him from killing the rats. This will be sufficient to take on ppl in Battle cruisers. Maybe even BSs if you are lucky, I warped into a mission once and I dealt 800 dmg to the BS, the rats were insne in that mission and did all the work for me. During the 10 sec I looted wreck they got me to 10% structure
If you can get a buddy in a caracal or cane/harbinger. You should be able to take on Battleships as well.
Ideally you want a Lachesis or Arazu to make sure you tackle the mish runner before he warps out, they got bonus to warp scrammer range. And a dps ship that deals high dps outside of 20km, any BS basically or some BC that can deal a fair amount of dps at that range.
* 20km is the range you will be able to damp targets to ** Soory for my abbreviations I'm used to it. Just ask if something isn't clear. *** I posted in other threads about probing, if you wanna look into it more try find them.
