Edited by: Aurik Ulanti on 30/03/2004 09:24:58 Hi!
I just read the short story "Catch of the day" I think it's called. It's about a Gallente trader and his doings at a traders meeting. Interesting part is that the trader himself is also a pilot and is in a pod when he docks his ship with the station. His pod is then lifted out of the ship and he later gets out of it and walks freely among the other persons in the station. I always thought you were in a pod for life? Have I been wrong for all this time? Anyone else noticed the story?
-edit- I mean, all the storys on this site are official from CCP right?

Hehe, it'd be pretty boring to be stuck in a pod for life wouldn't it?
"Pods" are snazzy little things that are connected to the ship allowing a pilot to control every aspect of his ship by linking him/herself through cybernetic implants in the spinal column. I reccomend you read The Jovian WetGrave for detailed information.

If you mean get out and walk tru the station, then you will indeed be stuck. If you however mean from a RP stand of view, then you can get out, since it's yust a pod filled with some fluids to suport your boddy while you lay in there plugged in (like the matrix style pods )

But still, in the story the guy does leave his pod. He is a pilot like we are and can do it. You guys whould read it! I mean...being able to leave the pod opens up a whole new world of RPing goodness
-edit- Click "World of EVE", then click short stories and scroll down till you see "Catch of the day". It's a long story but the important stuff (about leaving the pod) is on the first page. Read it!
-edit- I've read the Jovian Wet Grave, and liked it alot. But still, please, please read the story i mentioned and see for yourself. The character called Gaspar DOES leave his pod. And that story is a piece of the official EVE world. The world we play in and RP in, not some foolish fan fiction.

C'mon, hasn't anyone read that story?!!! And btw, "the jovian wet grave" story isn't relevant since they used a prototype pod there, not the current ones.

jovian wet grave counts, in ithe end however, the jove guy said that people can exit their pods with the proper mind training. The guy they tested it on didnt have training and they lobotimized him. ----------------------------------- about:blank |

Foresaken Ruins has the characters leaving the pods as well. So we can do it, we just can see ourselves doing it. My view: When your in a station what you see is on a computer terminal infront of you.

Edited by: Hydrox Maximis on 30/03/2004 13:19:00 You CAN NOT! leave your pod in game and will NEVER will be able to!
The thing you have just read is just a story! If this was in the "Under Development" or even "Testing" I could understand you getting excited about it, but it's bloody NOT!
The stories make nice reading but thats all they do, they dont affect the game in a direct way.

Hydrox. Yes we understand that. This discussion operates purely on a roleplaying aspect whether or not a pilot is confined permanently to a pod. Which we have established he is not.

Edited by: Tsual on 30/03/2004 13:58:30 "Catch of the day" and "Forsaken Ruins" both are officialy stories from CCP and show that in a Roleplaying/Background aspect you can leave the pod, yet it isn't in the game.
Just could interpret it this way:
(Hardcore way:) As long as you are logged into Neocom (Game) you are in your pod, however as soon as you leave the game your character leaves the pod. La Maison, Plasma Sphere and any channels roleplaying is main aspect of are mere virtual realities you visit while you are connected to the pod system. (You thus are in more worlds and have an enhanced consious.) --------------------------------------

Anyone can jack in t a pod. However only a small number are able to detach themselves from the pod's neural jacks and get *out* of the pods without becoming vegetables.

Xavier. Incorrect, as proven in this article, ship captains undergo rigorous training and almost all are empire sponsored. This leads to only qualified personnel becoming pilots and it would be extremely unprofitable to let anyone into a ship with the risk of becoming a "vegetable".

As far as I can see from reading the backstories and chronicles there are plenty of examples of people getting out of pods and nothing to suggest that we are stuck in them for life. So as far as I am concerned I can RP myself out of my pod as much as I like in my head, even if I know I can'f actually do that in-game.

Noob question time. Please forgive the stupidity.
Ummm...how do I make a left if there is no marker on my left that I can approach? For that matter, how can I prematurely disengage warp?

Sure you can leave your pod, but why would you want to?
When I leave my pod I'm forced to go to "work" which is a lot like mining without all the flashy lights.
Also my "wife" and "daughter" expect me to converse with them which is difficult since neither one of them have right click menus.

They also leave their pods multiple times in the story Forsaken Ruins, thats the new one that explains how the new stations got into the game.

Right-click to the left side in space, your ship will head in the direction you clicked. Prematurely disingaging warp isn't possible, but if you dont have enough cap you'll drop out out of warp before you get to your destination.
For stoy purposes, it works rather well, though

Thanks, that helps. I just wish there was a way to feed the warp drives enough power to travel whatever distance on the current direction :/

It would certainly be a curious life to live all your time in a goo filled pod jacked into your neocom for eternity. And yes eternity... its not as if you're going to catch a disease or something in that sterile environment.

Edited by: Iteration X on 30/03/2004 15:37:08 "pod" = "cockpit," that's all. Albeit a damp squooshy one.
If this game goes strong for a bunch of years, computing power showing no signs of slowing down, it could theoretically be an expansion or addition at some point. Realize that this would be coding an entirely new game and inserting it into this one - sort of the ultimate "mini-game" to make FF addicts jealous .
There's no there, there - no station interiors, no character models, no planet surfaces, the graphics don't exist and the code doesn't exist. It's not a matter of "let us out," there's no where to go. An entirely new devteam for Interiors would have to be formed and meshed with the existing team's work. Woooo...
i mean i'd love to see it happen just to see such a mindbending project work. But it's *definitely* not even in range of a Soon that has tech-5 sensor boosters equipped...
being able to play host in one's own corp-built station would be absolutely insane

Wow, many replies! I'm very happy about the fact that I can leave the pod. I know that the game mechanics won't let my character do so, but since I love RPing this is great news. Bad news is I have to rewrite my bio....which is quite long. I'll have to read that "...ruin" story asap!

Hey mate in the game you can't leave your pod in the EVE universe you can. I for example have been trained to use the pods so I can leave my pod to grab a snack or go potty with out becoming a mind zombie.
Maybe just maybe in a long long time CCP will release a mega expansion that will allow avatars to walk around in bases and do their business, that would be cool. Till then use your imagination

Quick Fly, exiting to potty is not necessary, I believe you have hoses to move undesirable mass, the only time you might want to exit your pod is just before your uninsured BS goes boom and you over tax the waste removal system. (yes it happened to me once) ok more then once, I now dye the ectoplasma brown in all of my new ships so I can't tell if I'm in for real trouble or not.
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

Quote: In a gentle huming sound, and a flow of synthetized molecules, the capsule managed to get Jera awake after four hours spent in a deep artificial sleep. As the thick liquid was slowly removed, Jera began to feel her body weigth again, and how weak it has become after years spent in space. Soon enough her thin exoskeleton was reactivated, compensating her deliquescent musculature. As the glimmer lights were actived in the alveolus, she blinked twice and needed a few seconds to focus her vision. The slot at the basement of her skull was tickling as her mind was still trying to see through cameras, instead of eyes. Sanitized water squirted to clean Jera's body from the capsule liquid residues, then hot air blowed to get her dry, adding to the sensitive confusion. In a loud breathing sound as the air pressures were getting balanced, the capsule opened like a mechanical flower. While she was slowly regaining control of her motions, Jera managed to stand up and walked to the sole furniture in the standard station room, typical to the dull yet efficient Caldari design. Still behaving as a somnambulist, she got dress up with the Drink Starsi™ formal yet stark Director uniform that was waiting for her on the clean desk. Then, her hand leaning on the board, Jera rested on a few seconds, recovering her spirits.
