I played EVE for over a year and a half on an old E-machine I used to have that ran XP and had not even half the power of the new rig I have that runs Vista. However, since retarting EVE with this new computer I can only get a framerate of about 22 or so in space, and even less in stations.
Here are my specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium HP PC with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ (2.8GHZ) 3GB Ram Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (128MB) DirectX 10
I'm running classic (premium absolutely slays my comp) at 1440 x 900 resolution. I've tried disabling AERO and turning off anti-aliasing but that didn't help. I've tried all the resolutions but no luck.
Anybody have any suggestions or ideal settings I could use to get my FPS to at least a constat 30 if not more??

Your GPU is really weak.

It seems that you are using the graphics solution of your chipset (onboard graphics) which has a rather poor performance. You should take a look at your mainboard, if there¦s a PCIe slot available for graphic adapters you should think about spending some money for a real 3D graphics card like an ATI 3870 or a Nvidia 8800GT which are better mid range cards at the moment and capable playing EvE even with the premium client on your system.

I know my card is weak, but like I said EVE ran at a steady 30 or so FPS on my old computer which was an Athlon 2600+ with a GeForce 4 MX card. I figured a PC and card at least twice as powerful as that should be able to make EVE a smooth experience.
There's got to be something I can tweak that will do that for me.

Tweaking the os won't do jack, one of the thing vista does will (sort of) is game, namely shutting everything else down when you run one full screen to make them faster, at least that's the theory.
The reality is games on vista really are smoother than xp, but usually slightly slower atm thanks to a number of things, most of which are sorted in sp1 so if you're desperate and can't wait 4-6 weeks for the official release you can dl the rc version from ms' website but remember that you'll need to uninstall it before you can install the final version once it's released in march. I've heard alot of positive things about frame rates for it but not needed to try it myself.
Ultimately you gpu sucks, nothing you can tweak will make up the difference a dedicated card would make. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Thanks for the info about the SP. It's not so big a deal that I can't wait until March to download that. Again though, I know the GPU sucks but the part I don't understand is that my old GPU was at least twice as sucky and the game ran better on that.
I'm trying to find out why my new and more powerful rig is running EVE slower. It also runs Maple Story and some other games slower than my old one. I can't afford a new card right now though so I'm stuck as is. Any info on why my PC now can't run it as well as a 4-year old PC would be appreciated as well.

Well an onboard graphics solution is not made for 3D content, it is normally used for office solutions and it does not have fast grapic memory as a normal graphics adapter has, the onboard solution uses an amount of your normal RAM. The rest of your PC might be faster than the components in your old PC but the graphic adapter is, as you noticed, not even as fast as a GForce MX.

I see. Well thanks everyone for the information. It's been useful and looks like I'll have to go as-is until I can get a better graphics card.
Also, I would've liked to put XP on here but I only have it on the system restore disks that came with my lost comp and you can't really install it with that.
Anywho, thanks again!

Vista may affect loading times (it's known that Vista disk subsystem is slower than XP's), but there should be no FPS difference if you have proper drives installed and working without conflicts on both systems.
The OP's problem is first of all videocard. Seriosly, you can get very cheap one of the new AMD (ATI) cards that will perform a LOT better.
I also had a problem with FPS when I played with nHancer to activate AA and HDR in a windowed mode. I did manage to activate them, but in result running 2-3 clients at same time turned into big problem performance-wise on an almost top-end PC. So if OP did something with settings in drivers of videocard he might really really want to uninstall them and install latest drivers.
