i'm flying a harbringer (amarr tier 2 battlecruiser) fitting is:
hih: anything that will fit (currently 5 H beams, 1 TB, 2 salvagers) mid: 4 cap recharger II low: 2 med armor rep II, 4 specific hardners
the only thing i can do to increase my tank is:
a) train rep systems to 5. ((a1) train cap skills to 5 as i am barely cap unstable already) b) add tons of money with faction stuff c) add tons of money with rigs when i could quite possibly move out of this ship in a week.
is there some easier way to increase my tank that i'm missing? --- Originally by: Kagura Nikon .......That is why I started an alt to be completely specced in ammar. Because eventually CCP will buff it......
rofl p.s. I fly Amarr and they blow. |

Add more Gank instead of Tank.
Less ships means having to tank less damage.
By the looks of it with only 5 turrets you're taking a very long time to destroy targets and in the meantime you're having to tank all of their DPS.
Not sure if you're active tanking by try passive. Use T2 Drones. Dump a salvager and add a turret. Or dump the TB/Salvagers, replace with turrets, and get a dedicated salvager ship.

I don't know what you do, but no matter what it is, you want to set up the Harbinger as a gank machine. Try something like... 7x heavy pulse, 1x tractor 1x web, 3x cap recharger IIs 1x MAR II, 3x specific hardeners, 2x heatsink IIs
With this setup, you are doing alot more damage and are able to eliminate enemies much quicker, reducing the damage done to you.
All the IIs i listed are very good, inexpensive and require very low skills for tech 2 stuff. The harbinger is overall a pretty noob friendly ship IMO.

Edited by: Jones Maloy on 11/02/2008 03:47:22 i'm out of grid is why i'm fitting only 5 guns (i don't have advanced weapon upgrades. fitting a pds puts me .5 grid from another beam). some rats orbit at 35km. my med drones take a while to chew through them. with beams i can add some damage on to that (radio). with just the drones attacking them it takes about 15-20 mins to kill a cruiser (4 drones, soon to be 5. poor drone skills too).
according to eft my cap lasts 14 min with both reps going, but with guns it is more like 5 min.
edit: *gives my mom the evil eye.* oh, hi. thanks for the help. "grumblefreakinlaunryillputherawaygrumble" --- Originally by: Kagura Nikon .......That is why I started an alt to be completely specced in ammar. Because eventually CCP will buff it......

forgot to adress the gank issue. i'm not sure if i could reduce the damage fast enough to keep the tank going. before fitting 2 reps i had 6 beams but had to warp out on lvl 3 stuff when it got heavy. amarr ships are extremely tight on grid with H beams so it would take maybe an rcu and-a-half to get the grid i need. i did remove the afterburner so i might be able to fit 7 beams with 1 rcu. --- Originally by: Kagura Nikon .......That is why I started an alt to be completely specced in ammar. Sounds like you are lacking in some real key skill areas with 4 drones taking 15minutes to take down 1 cruiser.
Quick suggestions
Play with EFT, use updated char skills, and see what you can fit turret wise until you can get 7 fitted. Build the rest of your set up around that.
Get Advanced Weap Upgrades trained ASAP, it's a lifesaver for any set up.
Train up your Armor Comp skills.
Same for your Gunnery skills.
Work up your drone skills, they must really blow atm per your 15-20 minute statement.
Consider using Pulses instead of Beams and let your drones take care of long range targets. Pulses with Radios should have an optimal of around 20k. Garinthor had a pretty good set up using them.
It might take you a month to get some of those skills worked up to decent levels but they're totally worth it. The trick to skill training is figure out what areas you're most lacking in, find which related skills give you the most bang for your training time and train those first. That way you get the biggest improvement in the shortest amount of time. It's different for everyone but given your fitting problems I'd say AWU should be your first priority. After that I'd take a look at putting some time into Drones, they're easily one of the best improvements for running missions.
IMO I still feel your current set up is lacking good DPS and you're tanking way too much damage for too long because it's taking you forever to take down targets. Fixing your set up and skills problems should help out bigtime.
Good luck to ya.
