it seems only normal to be able to have say a pilot and 1 or 2 or more gunners in these "huge" ships.
Actually, i guess it's only practical if battles last a little longer then they actually do right now (hint hint)

In the current state Eve, ships have targeting and tracking computers that do the work for you. The only way I could see this being usefull is in the case that you lost these computers and your guys had to "go manual". Alot of game mechanics would have to change for this to happen.

I think it would be kewl to have an all manual crew of real players.
Although I think it would get really old really quickly when all you do is activate a small "panel" with a couple of buttons.
Although I think the gunners will have fun.

dunno about multiple captins but having multiple people able to look at the outside of the ship they were docked would be cool.
Rise of Valhalla is now recruiting. We are looking for players of any level of experience. Please contact me or SSJ2VEGETA |

This was explained IC, ships used to have huge crews untill pods were invented. Theres a few stories about it in the "Backstory" part of the site: eg: http://www.eve-online.com/background/eggers/ ___________________________________________________

It's not a bad idea for a new game developed by an enterprizing new company eager for headaches and new chemical dependencies.
I might like a game where my avatar is an absolute nobody, and only survives by throwing in his lot with a favored faction, npc or player built, by serving aboard a station or a capital or commercial vessel. More space for political development is always more important to me than tweaking turret batteries. The amount of political involvement that would result from dozens of people putting much of their trust in a few captains would result in a lot of strain, a lot of attrition, and lot of political cleavage. It would require a dual client to facillitate interaction, so it is unlikely to happen.
I imagine I would be stuck with balancing the travel budget and crew salaries or with maintaining the ship's vitals. Actually that appeals to me if the system was highly robust with situational complexity and had an attractive interface. I imagine it would be a small community as it would draw people who were more enthused by perusing and creating literature than conflict. Conflict would be less avoidable, but you would have more early warning signals from long range scanners.
Unfortunately, even if you had mortal characters (but with final wills of course), you would still have a segment of the population demanding pistols, and then everything would disintegrate into inanity. I'm partial to smaller vessels with short range deployability of course do entertain such people, and smaller commercial vessels for those who don't like crowds.
Regardless it would take a lot of game engines and functionality to provide a high level of political possibilities and to provide the driving contradictions that produce them. Ideological faction are a rarity in virtual worlds. You would need coding support for all forms of governance, from republics to oligarchies, and so on, and so forth. Luckily I'm not a programmer and I don't have superfluous amounts of venture capital to throw around, so I never have to worry about this.

I would likewise be interested in this kind of ultra-team-play game, but you'd more likely than not have everyone and their mom trying to be a fighter pilot (or if they couldn't make that then captain, followed by gunner). It would be interesting to see how it would play out with ultra-tough ultra-hard-hitting with multi-player crews and fighter escorts going up against eachother, but it simply doesn't fit into Eve. Cool idea for another MMOG. ----------------------------------
