No race has a particular advantage in mining - it depends on your ship and the skills you train!

Gallente have a great cruiser - Thorax - for mining so it may spped you to that shhip to be a Gallente character as you will get their basic flight skills...

That should be expanded upon a bit.

It is true no race has an advantage skill wise in being miners. But as mentioned the other half of the equation are the ships.

Caldari flat out have the worst mining ships in the game. Even with their battleships the best they can do is 4 mining lasers on any ship. Best cruiser for mining might be teh Moa also with 4 turrets for mining lasers but it has a miserably small cargo hold. The Osprey has 3 turrets and a bigger cargo hold.

Compare that to the Amarr Apocalypse (battleship) with 8 turrets or most any other battleship with 6 turrets. Cruiser wise you have the Gallente Thorax with 5 turrets a oodles of drones space (drones can mine for you too) or the Amarr Maller also with 5 turrets (bit less drone space than the Thorax). Minmatar are stuck at 4 turrets with the Moa but have more drone space and more cargo.

Regardless of which race you choose you can fly any of their ships with some training so you are never really stuck but if you know you want to mine out of the gate then Gallente or Amarr or probably your best choices with Minmatar third and Caldari last.

Ok, first of all if you want to take up mining as a proffession you have GOT to get yourself a mining barge. The best mining ship other then barges and exhumers is proubebly the Apocalypse, but a mere Retriever who costs around 95 mill less has just a tiny bit less ore yeild. (I got this from Heleda's Mining guide so you know im not making this up) In addition the Caldari Osprey is the best mining cruiser symply because of the bonuses it gets and becaus its so cheap. Otherwise it doesnt matter what race you are as long as you have a barge, period.

A thorax for mining?
It has a minuscule 265m3 cargo hold.. you'd be drag-dropping every 15 seconds or so to prevent lasers from stopping. No offense but I don't think the thorax is a good mining ship IMO.

for a mineing battleship the rokh at least matches the ammar apoc, if not exceeds it with its much greater cpu and the ability to tank with mid slots leaving lows for cargo hold expansion and MLU's

and for mineing out of the gate the caldari osprey is an excelent mineing cruser untill you get into a mineing barge, where real mineing is done

Eh osprey is one of best mining cruisers with his huge mining bonuses, dronebay for defence and big enough cargohold, it can mine almos as well as medium mining barge.

And as for mining in Apoca, Mining barge and exhumers are way to go.

Ehm, can I say NO!?

Every race has a pretty much equally good mining frig with the same bonuses.

Caldari however has the best cruiser namely the Osprey wtih a HUGE bonus to mining. At cruiser 5, it gets a 100% yield bonus (So instead of 3 lasers, you have effectively 6!) (Though the time it takes to train cruiser from 4 to 5 can probably be better spent on training for a barge if you're serious about mining). It also has a decent cargo space and enough power and cpu to fit some defence (as well as drones), or a MLU.

I doubt you can pull ~500m3/m with any other cruiser. Actually, I'm pretty sure you can't!

Also, if decide to continue mining in a battleship (For example, if you're not too serious about mining and don't want to spend time on a barge, but want a battleship anyway), the Rokh does a pretty decent job too. In fact, it outmines any other battleship...

What about the Domi? You can get 6 MDCMs on it and a 600m3 cargo minimum.

Always good for deep space mining as you can tank most spawns.

Halada here...

Caldari is arguably THE BEST race for mining.

They have the...

The best mining BS (Rokh)
Arguably the best mining cruiser (Osprey)
The best mining frigate (Bantam)

I suggest you go read my guide in the Station and Outpost forum (it is often missed, but this is the forum for industry). You will find the guide stickied there. 50 pages in PDF format... should be able to help you out quite a bit (but it's not perfect) !

Miners = Gal

Nothing like solo mining in a Domi in deep 0.0. Your drones can pop the npcs without you even having to turn of the mining lasers. I would not, however, mine in a Thorax. Thats just wrong. I hear a Brutix does a good job though.
