Downloaded this game yesterday and as soon as it finished I played it for 5 hours straight.
Just wondering if anyone else on here played it (I know one or 2 at least do) and if you knew any good servers mods. Also curious as to what classes you play. Atm I've taken a shine to sniper purely because on the first game I played I used purely that and eaisly got to the top 5. I've tried the others but haven't got on as well with them. I guess sniper is probably the easiest in the sense that if your good at is all you do is find a good spot, point and shoot.
Any good advice for the other classes because I must be missing out on essential tactics somewhere along the line.

Server mods? Who needs server mods! Vanilla TF2 is the way to go totally.
Got about 120 hours racked up now give or take, mostly in engineer and soldier which ive got over 50 hours with each logged. Great fun, can't really play with anything else now - although i do have the occaisional flirt with spy. Playing the benny hill theme in my head as I run cloaked through twelve people is amusing.
I wouldn't say snipers easiest; I think medic holds that crown, but I will say its one of the easiest to get points with. 2 points for a headshotkill + just 2 or 3 people who like to stand still on the opposite team and you're pretty much sorted for the topspot. Good spies also get ridiculously high points values because of 2points for backstabs.
But the game isn't about points .

Soz, meant good servers or mods.
People moving when I've got a sniper doesn't worry me. I play sniper on basically eveything and have got to the point that I can hit a running jumping guy from the far side of the map. I also have a little trick when it comes to sniper rifles but I'm not going to give that away (I've got so many kills because of it that I don't want someone using it against me ).
I did try spy but I got caught out most of the time, I geuss I just need more practice. I quite liked scout for some things but always seemed to get killed by other scouts. I don't like any of the bigger classes much though.

Not been on it for a bit but basically, one tip to you is to avoid instant respawn servers, because they break the balance of the gameplay.

Just your opinion.
I think fast respawn is fine in CTF maps, even though I run my both servers with "fast" respawn on all maps (not instant).
A lot of my players don't like sitting around doing nothing for 15-20 seconds. It's not fun.
FYI, I run 2 servers, a 24 player and a 30 player server. Both are usually full during most times of the day. Both my servers have custom programming but no gameplay modifications other then a faster respawn.
Now theres something you don't see every day.
I could easily add grenades, but decided not to at least for now.
And on my server, you don't have to worry about farmers.

I don't like it as much as I did TFC.
I used to run a TFC clan but can't see me joining a clan for TF2.

I generally try to play on Dutch/Belgian servers, they have much better internet connections (than here in the UK) so there seem to be fewer high ping players messing things up.
I would have said that the soldier was the easiest, it's the most basic anyway, just keep firing and reload at every opportunity.
If you have a good connection try the scout (I find it too fast if my connection is lagging at all, can't hit anything), just keep moving, great for keeping the other team busy and capturing points (counts as 2 people).
My personal favourite is the pyro, I'm infuriating for enemy spies.
Add me to your friends list if you like (anyone), my name is Kyrall in TF2 as well. - Sig follows:

Edited by: Emma Peil on 11/02/2008 18:07:46 Yep I play TF2.
It's a blast, fairly balanced, lots of action, requires genuine teamwork and will make you laugh. I also adore the various character personalities.
My favourite class is probably Scout -fairly versatile and deadly at close range, although vulnerable in confined spaces.
In terms of tactics, the basics are: - Medics are your primary target. - If you're a medic, don't rely on the person you're healing to keep you protected. - Assume everyone is a spy until proven otherwise.

I tried scout for a while yesterday and actually found it pretty fun. Managed to get 6 kills without dying out on my own (don't know how good or otherwise this is but I was impressed) and then ran round a corner straight into a sentry . It is great for annoying people and having fun but with the amount of pyro's that were on the sane server as me it gets annoying after a while.

Pyro campers suck, they are using them in a completly wrong manner imo. They should be used to counter the enemy's initial rush by running into their group at a chokepoint and just holding down the trigger. Nothing beats 7-8 guys screaming "fire fire" in the first 30 secs of a match.

Sniper is pretty fun too, and Demoman is great on some maps.

I play it once on a blue moon when I just wanna kill some time. I'm on there as Boredomn.
Been through every class now I think although some more than others.
My top 3 is heavy, scout, and sniper in that order. In fact last game I was in I got into a sniper war with the enemy where we forgot about the rest of the game and just kept trying to take each other out. Unsuitable signature removed. Navgator

Not really opinion, it does break the balance of gameplay, Valve intended a respawn timer. Its opinion when deciding whether breaking the balance of gameplay made the game more fun.
Waiting 15-20 seconds means you actually feel like you've 'died', on fast/instant respawn servers its just a pointless brawl that for me is ruining TF2. I personally stopped playing because of the ammount of bad server setups, as like the first reply said, Vanilla TF2 is the best, instant/fast repawn servers were good but got way boring and repetetive.

Have to agree, TF2 is way better without mods.
Mainly play Engineer/Soldier but Medic can be fun too (especially when you have 'suicidal' moments) And I have lots of those, especially in BF2, do not fly with me when I am piloting a fighterjet or heli!
Quote: I wouldn't say snipers easiest; I think medic holds that crown
I wouldn't say so, well for most people its a easy class to play. But I've seen some crazy stuff too, Medic using nbercharge on himself to try and getting into the enemies base to capture the intell Or Medics using nbercharge as soon as its charged, and not having nbercharge when they actually need it
Some people are better off playing soldier lol
Its like a engineer waisting his mats on a sentry in Sudden Death while he could have built a Dispenser. Or a Sniper who thinks the bridge between forts in 2fort is a good sniping spot
Yeah, I've seen alot in TF2 lol
