Hello all. As is my Rupture ship has 3 650 mm autocannons and from what i can gather this is one of those cases where size does matter. However, based on my conversation with several more experienced players, i waas told that i actually would benefit more from lower caliber cannon. If so, could someone please elaborate on that?
thank you

If you can't fit a full rack of 650mm and ... wait... 650mm is the lower caliber... What else did you fit on it?

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 13/02/2008 01:53:42 650mm is the smallest long range gun for cruisers, if you can't fit 4 of those on your ship there's 2 options for that.
1 you fit (too much) other stuff on your ship 2 your fitting skills (engineering, elecotronics, (advanced) weapon upgrades) need some loving
Quite possibly it's the combination of the two, if you post your complete setup I'm sure we'll be able to help out.

med auto's don't come in 650's. You're talking arty cannons...Anyways, wht i do for my rupture (works really good, does everything i want it to), keep in mind i also fly battleships, so this might to somewhat less for you. Also, this is my personal fitting, you can take what you like from this.
High
2x Arty Cannons (longrange, dosn't really matter caliber, i use 650's) 2x Autocannons (shortrange, again, dosn't matter, i use 220's.) 2x Heavy Missles (extra DPS, close and distance, i use makulth)
Med
3x cap rechargers (tech 2 if possible)
Low
1x Armour repairer (tech 2 if possible) 2x Gyrostabilizers 1x armour plate (last thing you should put on, just get the biggest yu can put on)
This setup has tanked anything a lvl 2 mission can throw at it without any difficulty at all, while throwing our enough DPS to kill evrything fast, at any range. Sig removed. And somewhere in heaven the Rupture god cries a little in his sleep :(
Please, don't mix guns. Just... don't. Also the plate is no use since you need resists for tanking (Assume you're trying to tank due to the full rack of cap chargers). Fit resists.

This is not a good setup. You're gimping your damage at both ranges. Fit either all arties or all autos, and assault missiles will probably be better for the small targets in level twos than heavies. Swap one of the rechargers for an AB, maybe a webber too, then the MAR, two rat specific hardeners, EANM in the lows then maybe throw on a plate.

Well my rationale is, this is New Citizens so if someone is new to level twos, then a good solid tank will work well until they get used to the damage dealt and what their ship can handle. Then maybe two gyros with a lighter tank and going for damage will probably be an option, but as Tzar'rim said, you'd want the two resists.
Arties and keeping at range would be a great strategy for missions, but I think they'd take really good fitting skills which a new cruiser pilot probably won't have (I don't have EFT or a Rupture in my hanger to test). If they do, then I'd drop the webber and use the extra cap recharger.

When I first came to cruisers, I couldn't fit much, so a few pointers:
- Assault launchers need half the grid that heavy ones do (50 as opposed to 100 iirc), so if you have grid problems put 2 assaults - also, heavy missiles do about 10% damage to most frigates which are usually most rats that you see in lvl 2s - Never use biggest gun in class (so never put a 720 mm on cruiser). Also 3 is ok if you can't fit 4 (my first cruiser, Stabber actually had only 2 arty, couldn't fit anything else ) - Armour plates take a lot of CPU and grid, so if you can't find enough try using resistance plating instead - Use Afterburner: deciding range of combat means controlling how much damage you deal and recieve - Named modules in most cases use less CPU than non-named, so if you have cpu problems try switching a few modules

Edited by: Proazatica on 13/02/2008 14:13:54 My Rupture setup is as follows:
2 x 425 autocannons 2 x 220 autocannons (Note: These 2 guns are nearly identical in range, and you can edit the ranges with ammo easily) 1 x missile rack 1 x salvager
2 x Large shield extenders <------ROCKS! 6k shields is very nice, and the regen rate is insane. 1 x Afterburner
1 x Overdrive 1 x Warp Stabilizer (I fly in lowsec) 1 x Inertial Dampener 1 x Targetting Amplifier 1 x Misc - Webber, etc.
This works very well for me, optimal range is about 3-4k with around 12-13k falloff (with long range ammo) or around 1.5k with 9000k falloff with EMPs loaded. I can either sit still and just blast them around me, or I can kite if there are too many of them (800ish max speed).
FYI, I HAD 2 720s, 1 220 and 2 missile racks/rocket launchers, but I like keeping the guns the same in case some dillwad tries to jump me. Setting your rig for 100% PvE when you're in lowsec is just stupid imo.
EDIT: Oh ya, and I'm < 30 days played so this is easily obtainable.

I've never used a Rupture for PvE, just PvP, but I just threw something together that should work pretty good. Use best you can afford for each slot and you will probably need to use best named to fit it all if you don't have good fitting skills. Or you may need to actually drop something, in which case start with the assault launchers and web:
HIGHS
220mm ACs X 4 Assault Launchers X 2
MIDS
Medium Cap Booster w/ 200s Webifier Afterburner
LOWS
800mm Rolled Tungsten plate Gyrostabilizer X 1 Medium Armor Repairer X 1 rat specific Armor Hardeners X 2
I used all T2 (generally higher fitting reqs) and it came out cap stable with a decent tank and damage. Use combat scout drones + web for frigates. My PvP fit is very different but this fit is probably good for PvE.

Agree with above post. AC's are death hoses on a Rupture, and Assault missile launchers will complement them as you need to be in close range. I got over my fear of going in close in PvE due to my Rupture's ability to be fast and deadly.
The drones are excellent additions, I fit 1 Hammerhead II and 4 Hobgoblin II's. Put them on your primary mission target (the Habitat for example) and proceed to clean house with you guns and missiles.
For those missions with beau-coup rats (Blockade) I use an Arbitrator with 5 Hammerhead II's, drone link augmentor, and sensor booster for extending targeting range.
Between those two cruisers its all you need for any Level 2 and even some level 3 missions.
Its good to invest time in training another race's frigate/cruiser skills to get a wider range of capabilities. Also drone and missile skills are never a wasted investment.
YOU'VE NEVER ROCKED 'TIL YOU'VE UNDOCKED. |
