He was sleeping safely on his bed after a long day of traveling, inside his quarters in his Minmatar corporate station, orbiting an unknown planet in a newly claimed solar system 50 ôjumpsö from Matar. He had been traveling for several hours to get there.
He didnÆt know that just over a thousand years ago, his ancestors had only visited three systems, and such a journey would have taken several millenia.
His intercom sparked to life with the shouting voice of his commander, alerting him that they have detected an enemy patrol three systems away. He quickly jumped out of his bed, already in his clothing, reached for his Mark III plasma pistol and scurried off to his ship hangar.
He didnÆt know that his great grandfather never had a plasma pistol, such comfortable station quarters or even a corporation.
He entered his command pod, powered up all the systems and took off. He engaged warp to the nearest jumpgate and began his journey, estimating that the travel would be about ten minutes.
He didnÆt know that without the introduction of jumpgate technology by the Amarr Empire he would have to use a primitive, slow and dangerous ôgravity slingshotö to launch his ship and hopefully arrive at the destination in one piece.
As he arrived at the final system he loaded his shipÆs guns with projectile ammo, because his corporation had projectile ammo in vast supplies.
He didnÆt know that just over a hundred years ago his ancestors built the very ammo he was about to use, thanks to their Amarrian masters.
He flew to the enemyÆs location, and began to shoot the Amarrian ship.
He still didnÆt know that the only reason he was able to sleep at his corporate station fifty jumps from Matar, own a plasma pistol, fly a warp-capable spaceship, jump through five systems in ten minutes and arm his weapons was the ancestor of the Amarrian he was shooting. He only knew it was ôthe enemyö.
(These words are not to be associated with my corporation or anyone else but myself)
