Finding people in lowsec using a covops scout
How effective would this be?
How often could I expect to find people if I train for a highly specialized covops ship with good scanning skills?

every time you launch a probe....if your dedicated, highly skilled and get the appropriate gear, you will find them in less then 20 seconds. Originally by: GM Faolchu It is within the rules of the game for someone to enter your mission and steal the loot/salvage.

Quite effective unless you are dealing with the ultra paranoid that dock once you enter local

With my skills: 1 in 100
With my skills + drunk: 1 in 10
With my skills + no backup + drunk: 1 in 1
With anyone else probing: They get 'em every time

I see, thanks
I also noticed that there is a 100km deviation? What does that mean? Do I actually have to travel much closer to the target (with no mwd while cloaked) before my friend can warp to me? (Cheetah can only go like 600 m/s)
And also, is it rare to find people in 0.4 using these methods? How often would we find a mission runner or a miner doing this?

Deviation can be lowered by skills..can't remember which off top of my head tho.. There's lots of info available on Eve-O already on how to find and probe down low sec mission runners..if you do a bit of searching it's all there..
But the short answer is Yes, they are effective. On good nights our covert ops pilots can grab 10 - 20 mission runners, and we usually manage to ransom most of them...they usually have way better modules fitted than the belt ratters and a ship scanner is a great way to persuade them that a ransom is in their best interests

It also depends on the system, if it's cluttered by a zillion ships sitting at POSes it can become more difficult, even more when they start warping from POS to POS.
You can deduct who's at a POS or not by looking at the distance found, if there's more ships at the same distance they're bound to be at a POS or gate (or safespot).
