To scan for these I fly to a planet, click cosmic anomaly and on board scanner the click analysis.
I've never found one, and only look for them when I'm bored. Can anyone tell me what kinds of things I might find if I look for these in high sec/low sec/0.0? Thanks much.

Most of the high sec anomalies I've found (I believe low-sec/0.0 are the same general format, just tougher rats and better rewards, sometimes just spawns, sometimes plexes) have been spawns of typical local rats, usually around 5-6 spawns at a given site. A few times the final Boss has been a faction spawn, and a few times I've been sent out on Expeditions, which is basically you're given a BM to a system a number of jumps away, and when you clear THAT site, it gives you a BM to the NEXT leg and so on. Twice my expeditions have ended in faction bosses, sometimes just dead-ends tho.
You'll get them more often if you use scan probes - at the very least you can use a multispectral probe to see if theres anything in the system in the first place, if not you don't waste time scanning each planet.

Scan probes can take a long time though (10 Min unmodified). Also if you're in busy space their's probly not as many sites as theirs more people doing them.

very true, with decent skills and a purpose-built scanning ship you can get the scan time pretty reasonable, (on my Anathema my scan time is down to 153 secs)
Also you can use Quests to get complete system coverage and scan down an anomaly in a single pass, rather than warp to each planet and run seperate scan cycles, still a bunch of warping around either way but I find its faster and much less frustrating to drop a multispec, then a Quest series if theres anything worth looking for, rather than randomly scan planets.

Yes, just make sure Cosmic Anomaly and not Cosmic Signature is highlighted.
