Hai, I'm working with the local lan center Hard Knocks (which is about a 5 minute drive from the UCF campus) on getting an east coast US EVE meet going soon. I'm not sure what the best day would be and I need to know how many people would be willing to visit so we can plan this in the most effective manner.
I'm thinking right now is perhaps shortly after the EVE Tourney on a Saturday night. I want to give everyone enough time if they need to put it in their schedules.
This is my first time doing something like this so any advice or help would be great.
Hard Knocks
Nutshell of Hard knocks:
Hard Knocks is one of the biggest lan centers I've seen and could hold quite a few people. They have many lan PC's (with eve included) as well as many big screen TV's lined up along the walls for movies or for games. They have a main stage for rockband (lulz) and they also have 2 really big warehouses for laser tag. It's not your usual modified price checker laser tag, it's the real deal. Srsly.
There's also a pizza/bree place down the road that they work with and they're close by the UCF campus area in Orlando.

The multitudes of replies is so totally motivating, really. :P
The LAN center is affiliated with the sports bar Rivals (down the road). I just tested it and they have decent food and a karaoke area (rick roll anyone?) for some midnight funs after we're done hanging at the LAN. What I'm planning is for the meet sometime in mid-March on the weekend...a Saturday night perhaps. The last few hours will be spent at Rivals, the bar. Underage kiddies can suck down sodah if they wanna come with.
I know a lot of people don't bother reading this forum so I've also posted this on scrapheap. I do wanna talk to some peeps (maybe in the eve radio/bob radio or ccp/mmm publishing peeps) to see if I can get more coverage or tips for this.
Ok, I'm going to go look for possible hotel locations for people that wanna stay the night in Orlando.

Not to create any kind of controversy here but I offered our place, which has 25 computers with Eve, have many bars and pizza places in the same plaza. You visited us and I remember meeting you. Whatever happened?
Nevertheless, we do have a nice Eve gamer community with most of our regulars playing it right now.
As I said before, our place is available for the Eve community.

I'm still trying to get a guesstimate on how many would show up to this thing so I can plan it properly. I'm thinking mid-March or mid-April for the meet. I'm not sure how long people need to plan ahead for something like this.
Also from seeing the lack of interest on this forum so far I think I'll need to get other means of getting this meet out to the public - perhaps contacting the EVE radio guys or maybe someone in CCP that helps with player meets?

move it to Gigabits. my whole corp is made of giga regulars. The management are Eve players and are very receptive to having an eve get together. 25 top top the line machines all with 22 inch wide screen monitors and executive style chairs. hours are noon to whenever your head hits the keyboard, they have energy drinks and snacks also in the same plaza are 3 bars and 8 restaurants and 3 hotels in walking distance. hourly gaming rates are lower than at hard knocks as well give it a thought Izzy were planing to do an eve gathering there in the first week of April

After talking with Gigabits, I will probably be moving this to their lan as they took the initiative and gave me a time and date as well as organizational plans for moar things. Time will be April 5, from 12pm to 6am or later, depending on if people want to stay.

Since no one has linked the other site for discussion. You can read about Hard Knocks at http://www.hardknocksorlando.com/. This features a smaller set of computers however offers more consoles and stage for Rock Band. On top of that features a warehouse and office combat area with use of guns. Downside is there isn't as much round HK. Both are about 1 mile apart so isn't a big deal. The plans should be favored to what the people traveling the longest want.

And yes, more and more people are turning up that are in orlando.
Just a note for people living in orlando.
Gigabits is the home to the EVE Corp of S!K Elite.
95% of the members that are in the corp also go to gigabits.
This is one of the reasons that all of our corp is very happy to see this event coming to Giga.
Also at Val..what school are you speaking of? Just curious.
@absolutecaliber: Yeh theres actually a good handful of people in the winter park/oviedo area that play EVE. Some of them are new to the game, others of us have played for a while. No matter what side you are in in the war, look forward to touching base in person.
@Illidan: Good to hear it. Hopefully this event will be HUGE!

I wonder if before April 5th we could set up a smaller meet, just for those in orlando. Kind of like a social night. But yeh, april 5th would still be the big ole fun event.
Oh and Izzy or Manny...question. Now I know Giga usually closes around 4 to 6AM depending on the day (Weekday or Weekend)...are yall planning to keep it open much longer? If you havent decided on that part yet, thats cool. Just a question i had.
*EDIT* Also for anyone interested. Gigabits does have an ingame channel named well... Gigabits. Good place to hang out and yeh. Felt id share that.

A couple of us from Longwood/altamonte area will be there, hopefully, if not I will definitely be there..How close is the bar, and which one..As that may be an incentive to get some Ex-EVErs there.. .. Fantastic idea btw..
I would be up for a bi-weekly/weekly gathering..btw..I been an EVEr long enough to have played Beta and have an original pre-launch art book..maybe on Gigabits' slower evenings..All about supporting the local business. May even be able to get my company to cater with enough warning, and bribing of course..

as far as time goes it looks like we might do the whole weekend as some people are coming down from Mission Control LAN gaming in Indiana for this.

Definitely give a call this Evening(gotta work til 6pm today), or possibly stop by and grab a membership, dunno if we actually have time to stick around for long this evening, as tomorrow is ST. Patricks and have a lot of work today.. Looks like I will be able to take off Sunday the 6th, so going all weekend is fantastic..well barring the 6-8hrs sleep.. ..If we drop by I will leave a pamphlet of what we can supply, and I don't mind shelling out the cost for food, from the company to a certain degree, if more is needed on short notice, Get a nice discount..Still talking with my boss for the advert in trade, especially if its all weekend that could really supply us with a bounty of grub..

Uhm as for the time..the event starts at 12pm (Noon) and goes until....whenever.
And by whenever..it means whenever.
If we all stay until noon the next day...i dont see how that will be a problem lol.
As for the catering..the advert shouldnt be a problem. I dont think
But yeh as long as you do what eskalin said and drop off the info at giga, everything should be handled.
As for the location, rather information on the plaza that Giga is in..
Theres 3 ..bars.
Underground Bluz.

As for food (If the catering thing doesnt happen) theres a Mcdonalds, Lazy Moon (Great big pizzas), silvermine subs, chinese food, etc.
Also for all you smokers, there is a liquor store/cig store in the plaza.

Not available that weekend they are heading to Vegas..A few of my Co-workers that wear skimpy outfits, and cut down on the testerone, and certain gaming/comic events..Nothing illegal, they just like Geeks..lol

Hey guys I'm going to be coming up from Fort Lauderdale. I already have my hotel booked on property at Disney World for that week and Im going to sacrifice a day of happiness for a day of pew pew with some fellow Floridian EVE'rs.
I know it's a bit of a drive so I've already booked a car service for pickup and dropoff... I never play EVE without a vat of liquor... Thank God there are bars in the plaza

Chiming in my two cents, hehe.
I managed to make it out for the afternoon, and I had a blast. Big props to Gigabits for hosting (I'll definitely be going there again in the future), to CCP for sending swag for the raffle, and of course to Izzy for organizing the whole thing to begin with.
As far as I understand it's still going on, haha - wish I could have stayed longer or come back again today, I had a blast kicking around SiSi with you guys. The frigate battles in FFA5 were the best, haha!

Hehe, I had some good times chilling with Cypher and Zack05 while trying to take down Elsanki (sp? hes in BoB) smart bombing carrier with my concussion bombs.
Thank you Izzy very much and sorry about the double kill with the bomb on you and the guy you were sitting next to.
I will definitely come back if you guys ever want to just chill on SiSi.

Yeh it was fun.
The fun we had in FFA5 on SiSi was so much fun.
Navick had the ECM on lockdown as the rest of us tried to snag those annoying 10.5KM/s crows. We ripped apart alot of people and didnt loose all that much at all, was very impressive.
And yeh, CCP got props for the swag, it was awsome. I love my new eve bottle opener.
Oh and absolute...you had..won something. :P A bottle opener. But you werent there so they redrew for it and i got it. Roflcakes.
Pastor (Barricade991) and err..Chriboga (Think thats how you say it) both won The Art of Eve Books.
Thanks for this event izzy, hope we can do another one soon.
There was only 10 to 15 people there, but hopefully if we make the events..more regular (Like the last weekend of every other month or something) then we can continue to get more and more folks.
