title says it all... Do you fit a mwd or no? is it worth the shield penalty and high cap use.

I don't fly a Tempest, but looking at the stats I'd say a MWD is a smart bet. You aren't using cap for your guns or missiles so you have plenty to spare unless you're trying some sort of double-shield-booster tank setup. Also, your guns rely on staying at long range (artillery) or staying close (autocannons), so being able to control the range is important. Your howitzers won't do you much good against a blaster-thon orbiting at 5km...

I can tell you that one first hand
honestly, I'd suggest leaving it off unless you know you will be in the above noted situation - it's nice to have full shields in battle. Just ensure you set up a good distance from wherever your enemies will show up (at a gate, station or belt) and if you see one mwd towards you, either take him out while he's in transit or warp away and back to a more favorable range. =============== Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

Edited for accuracy.

MWD on a long range, damage dealing tempest rocks.
But then again I like MWD on almost every ship. -- Stories: #1 --

Edited by: Nirvy on 01/04/2004 05:21:03 I have been flying my tempest in PvP for 7 month now. It seriously depends on who you are fighting, and where, and what your role is.
If im camping at a gate with friends, i tend not to use one, if im hunting solo with a WS,Web and my 800mm's then i always use one.
The hig cap use isnt all that of a problem with a tempest, the only cap drainer i use is my shield booster, whether Large or XL. If your in a gang you should get at least an 8% shield bonus due to gang skills.
Just dont rely on a sole MWD to help you escape, a good web and ws can generally still screw you over, you will need WCores, and maybe an AB if you want to be able to escape a screamble.
Personally i only use my MWD agressively, it is there to enable me to get into web and scramble range and stay in my 800mm or dual 650mm optimal. I dont use it to escape, and dont expect it to get me out of trouble. If you plan on using it like this..go for it. Mercenary | The Azath |

800mm / D425 / D650's should hit pretty well. Tempest with 6 800mm is pretty darn good if you know how to use it.

they're really good, but I don't think I'd ever purposely go toe to toe with a blasterthon at 5k with them. Given equal skills and fittings, the odds are with the Mega.
