So I'm returning from a year long break from EVE. I flew mainly Caldari when I played last year and close to the time I decided to take a break i was becoming seriously disenfranchised with the ability of Caldari ships to kill quickly and then exit the battle area before my targets backup arrived. As we all know, Caldari generally suck solo. So I had made the decision to crosstrain to Gallente, then unfortunatley quit the game for awhile. Now that I'm back, post Trinity I keep hearing about Caldari ships have been buffed as far as the manuverability is concerned, and as always Caldari are great when in a gang. But I also have been hearing about PvP is rapidly becoming a game of fast moving and mobile gangs with success hinging on engaging and withdrawing as quickly as possible. So would I be making a mistake in picking up where I left off with Caldari? Raven still sucks overall? Or with some outside the box fitting and thinking it can be turned into an effective piracy/gang vessel? Can the same be said for the Drake or the Caracal? What if I were to head the CovertOps/Stealth Bomber/Recon Cruiser route? Basically I'm looking for any excuse to justify why I spent so much time investing skillpoints in Caldari ships in order to use them for piracy. Or would I be better off just cutting all ties, and finish my Gallente crosstraining, as I'm in a position now to be able to fairly easily continue on either path? Any comments or advice, is greatly appreciated. any excuse

Hey man , long time no see ! (Metafarmers are recruiting )
As far as I'm concerned , Eve is becoming Caldari Online. Most skill paths should be good , the Eagle will be well worth the SP once it gets an extra turret after the patch. Torp ravens are meaner than before , only nerfed aspects are non-dedicated ewar (caracal can no longer be effective with ewar in mids) but caldari has the best ewar ships obviously. As for solo , you can always count on the crow... drake is optimal for solo gatecamping also.

Falcon + dps ships = killmails. The ship is just an awesome gang support ship, bring one and you'll turn those difficult fights into a one-sided massacre. You've got the ECM to lock down the most dangerous 1-3 ships on the other side, and the covert ops cloak to scout the target and set a warp-in point for your friends. In a small gang fight, it's hard to think of a ship you could bring that would do more to help than a Falcon.
Raven + Rapier = killmails. As long as you get a web + painter on the target, that's 1000 dps on your target's weakest resist, from pretty nice range.
Cerberus + tackler = killmails. You're putting out over 350 dps from 0-150km range, with no tracking issues. Stay out of range of your target, and rip apart their cruisers/frigates.
Crow + dps = killmails (and many podkills!). It's a very good interceptor, all you need is the friends to put some actual dps on the target.
Rokh + tackle = killmails. Sure, you've got a bit lower dps than the true gank battleships, but you've got 900 dps point blank, 700 dps at 30km range (and think of the tracking with blasters at that range), and far better tank than the other gank ships.
The other T1 stuff is mostly junk though. The Drake is the best of the bad ships, but really, if you want to be effective as a pirate, you should be flying T2 or battleships.
And of course once you get into bigger fleets, the railboats start to become very effective, while the small-gang stuff doesn't become obsolete as much as the Minmatar/Gallente pirate ships. So I'd say you're pretty well off as Caldari, you can't really solo very well, but solo piracy is a dead art these days. You're flying with 3-5 people anyway, and Caldari ships will do perfectly well in that situation. Just don't try to tackle yourself, let someone else do that and save your midslots for something more useful. You don't need 5x scrams and 5x webs on the target anyway, so it's not like you lose anything.

Wrong
Anyway no ya not making a mistake
for piracy, let's assume solo, the rook can do just fine for belt roaming if setup properly
The raven has shexy damage now, and has an OKish tank if setup correctly.
But tbh ya don't need anything more than an Onyx to be able to pirate solo and making plenty of ISK.

Caldari are fine; the Raven in particular is an awesome ship at the moment. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

yes i agree, caldari is good but ppl just say they suk cause they try to put mwd web and scram on them and try setup a ferox as a blaster boat and go "man this sux". seting up a ship is key. i fly a drake which does 530dps... can hold its prey in place... and enough tank to stay under sentry fire... as far as im concerned - that is good.

Actually nubbles, i'm right. Caldari is out performed by every other race in solo. You fail.

WB to the games, man. And from a guy who is also Caldari/Gallente crosstrained.... Falcon is pure lulz if you have a gang.... few months back, Ghost, Pcaboo and I spanked three battlecruisers and a battleship back in Egg with a Domi, blackbird, and Pcaboo being a nublet in his stealth bomber. So they're fun. >:)

Hi Kirth <(^_^)>
Anyway Caldari do have good ships for pvp like the rook the area they are lacking is the ability to MWD/web which is a big downside thats why races such as Gallante and Minmatar are better for pvp better survivability
its just like being amarr you just gotta be smart and know how to fit your ship but sadly you get people who have no clue at all so just decide to whine on the forums
try a nano cerb and rook there great ships for caldari if you dont like them then yea ide say train another race dont forget Minmatar are good to
ow and i dont know you but WB

Caldari are good mate. At the end of the day it all depends on what kind of pvp you are going to get yourself involved. Once you know that you will have you range of ships to help you. Nano Istar is excellent for 0.0 and belt hunting. Deimos still has its place for belt hunting and a thorax is great for killing haulers at a gate lol

Ratting is mind numbing to some people. And the tears in local after a fight sometimes...

lol @ mematar "risks" his navy mega
the closest he came to "risking" his navy mega was when i lit my cyno off during the fight too, unfortunately my carrier alt wasn't in his, otherwise the fight would have gone from "pointless gank" to "interesting but moot"
