Ask your new Ally. They probably have a set of setups they like you to use in fleets depending on what they do. ---------- Kill them all - God will recongnize his own. |

Edited by: Susa Ou on 15/02/2008 12:13:03 Well, a Typhoon is not a fleet ship, so if someone wants to get creative and set one up they can do that - the tempest however is a good fleet ship.
6 1400IIs -- 1 100mn MWD II 2 Sensor Booster II 2 Tracking Computer II -- 1 RCUII 1 DCUII 3 Gyro II 1 MAR (or a Tracking Enchancer - or - whatever: I fit a MAR just so I can rep myself during breaks)
Maelstorm is a better fleet ship, but costs more.
8 1400mmII -- 1 100mn MWDII 2 SBII 2 TCII 1 LSEII -- 3 Gyro 1 MAR (same logic as the Tempest - but this is a 'free' slot) 1 RCUII
Ultimatly though, some FCs want remote repping and such which will require significant setup changes.

Well I guess Ill go with 2 Tempests for now unless my wallet will stretch to 2 Maelstorm's. It was mentioned in my interview for the corp if I could fly a Maelstrom with a range of 240k's so I guess thats what there after?

Tempest makes a better fleet sniper then a Mael does because of its falloff bonus. Either way here is come cookie cutter sniper builds.
Tempest:
H: 6x 1400mm howitzer artillery II M: 1x MWD, 2x sensor booster II, 2x tracking computer II L: 3x Gyrostabilizer II, 1x Reactor control unit II, 1x damage control, 1x Armor rep
If you want more range:
Tempest
H: 6x 1400mm howitzer II M: 3x sensor booster II, 2x tracking computer II L: 3x gyrostabs II, 2x tracking enhancer II, 1x power diag II (or damage control with advanced weapon upgrades V)
177km optimal with Tremor L 44km falloff
Maelstrom: H: 8 x 1400mm howitzer II M: 3x sensor booster II, 2 x Tracking computer II, 1x 100mn MWD L: 2x gyrostabs II, 2x tracking enchancer II, 1x signal amplifier II or PDU II depending on your skills

While the Pest and Mael are fine sniper platforms, don't forget not all fleet engagements are at range. For those jump thru the gate and engage immediately fleet ops, the Typhoon with 4 torp launchers and 4 auto cannon is a nasty piece of work. Armour tank it up the wazoo and you'll last long enough to get on the kill mails.

As far as fleet is concerned I'd say don't fly a minmatar ship, especially after the Amarr get the new Apoc.
Everybody will be able to out range you in your tempest. Most fleets are going to warp in at a range that is close to or above your opt + falloff meaning your dps is crud. Minmatar pilots would be better used in support roles at this point. Interdictors to keep the enemy fleet pinned, or muninns to absolutely hose enemy support ships. (Muninn with 2x tracking computers is INCREDIBLE)
It takes rigs to get the pest's optimal to above 170km, and that means a much more expensive ship. A mega, no rigs, can easily get an optimal of 190km. Don't even talk to me about the Rohk.
Minmatar are completely outclassed for fleet engagements now. Whether you choose a pest or a maelstrom, you just won't be in range to utilize your weapons to the fullest.

Maybe Minni Bs's are outclassed but it is a pre requisite of my corp that I have 2 BS's in my hanger at all times for fleet ops, I dnt even fly a BS never have done yet as I prefer the smaller ships, I did train all the skills for the BS's ages ago but just never was attracted to fly them. So I may as well set them up as good as they can be, I am minni and do not plan to ever cross train to anything else! I like who I am and my ships.

If you want to have fun and not snipe, you could always outfit a nanophoon. A typhoon in a fleet situation often won't be called out as primary, which would give you a little freedom to wreck havoc with a Phoon going over 3k down in the front lines.
