Edited by: Chade Malloy on 01/04/2004 12:14:32 This is no request for additional content or features. This is an idea how to make EVE really unique compared to every other MMORPG.
At first, a story: A corpmate of mine went to some sansha-log location to hunt some rats in his brand new Raven BS. When he arrived, a fleet of frigates attacked him. With a smile on his face, he fired a torp into the cluster of incoming ships, do decimate them a little. just before the torp hit, another player warped in, right between the path of the torp and the rats. Well, he got hit by splash damage, concord was alerted, warped in and wiped out my mates raven along with the smile on his face... The raven was uninsured, and the perplexed player who caused this simply took the remains of my mateŠs ship and left the place.
Now the question: Is that fair?
I think, it isnŠt, and i think i am not alone with that. Nearly everyone playin Eve has encountered at least one situation which was unfair for him / left him with anger, hate or even worse. And there was nearly no chance to change that. ItŠs always the same: On one side, the players, onthe other, the allmighty GMs. Their rules (=game mechanics) are far away from perfect, but it is very hard to argue with them. (and win of course)
So here is the deal: We have Polaris, we have the CSM, we have forms of interaction between Players and GMs (devs). Why not bring them further together with another instance: -> The JUDGES, dedicated players throughout the eve universe, with a good comunication with polaris / gms. Everyone of them is anonyme of course.
Works as follows: Player A has a problem with player B, concerning the destruction of property C. Game mechanics reacted to, but in an unfair way for Player A. he wants to further discuss this. he files a Petition to the JUDGE system. now everyone inthe EVE-universe who is an active "judge" gets this petition in form of an eve-mail (lets call it the "case". If one of the judges thinks, it is justified to act, it comes to a -> COURT HEARING: Involving the following Parties: Player A, Player B, and the -> JURY: Random Players throuout the universe, which are online, that can be asked by the judges if they want to participate in the hearing. (For a little remuneration, paid by the "loser" of the hearing)
The Hearing takes place in a special ingame-chat channel. The Jury-people can only listen to the involved parties, and talk to the JUDGE alone. As long as somebody is part of a jury he canŠt comunicate to anyone else (corp, private convo, eve-mail etc.) After every side has told them their ways of view, its on the Jury to decide, if "guilty or unguilty". (maybe through 2/3 majority)
The JUDGE then declares his judgement, and executes it (when it comes to dealing with GMS, for reimbursing etc.) If a npc party is involved (concord for example) an other judge takes the role of representing it in the hearing; think of it as some kind of "public prosecutor".
A system like this would imho revolutionize the realtionship between Players and GMs vastly, and bring a new form of Justice into the Game.
