I think it would be useful to have a Simulator mod of some kind so you can train and test out ideas/tactics/etc with out actual damage. You buy a Simulator, fit it to a slot and activate and you are in a 'Simulation' mode. Then you can fight as normal and it affects all stats as normal, ie shield, amour, damage, cap etc. But when deactivated the ship dispalys its real statis. If you get killed in simulation mode then a message is displayed saying your dead and you return to the real mode. If another player who is not in sim mode comes in range then a warning or something can come up and the appropiate action taken. A skill could also be incorporated for use.

The Ammo may cause an issue, do you use real ammo and just say you left the detonators out? or do you introduce practice rounds and missiles? The practice rounds would be good as they create some sort of cost to training. however if atacked by a real aggressor then you would have to reload.

There could be many applications of the idea.
- standings inside corps without loss of assets
- training new players
- developing team tactics
- doing ship setup comparisions
- allowing for battles to take place inside fed space without concord risk
- a tornement of some sort maybe, like UT idea.

I wont want this idea to remove pvp, but create a traing option which hopefully will greatly benifit seasoned players, allow for noobs to gain experience and training and facilite a more diversified, orgainzed fleet wars. I would hope this idea would inhance pvp and allow an avenue for ppl to move into pvp.

Anyway what do people think? useful? useless? Comments?
Thanks Candela

Just a bump to keep it current. I'd definately prefer practice mods and rounds. It means, don't go practicing in bad areas, coz you wont be able to hit the people shooting at you.

It also means corps and gangs can practice running gate camps (Practice Warp Scrambler). Tain members in the use of EW (Practice jammers and target painters - the same as the real ones, just that concord does not mind),

Practice missiles & bullets (nothing actually has to leave the chamber, just has to project if it hit the target and maybe how much for).

It will also allow gang leaders and corp hierachy to examin training logs.

If players want to use it for lame duels or similar, big deal.

errrr and by fitting this item to a slot on your ship, doesnt that detract from its purpose of testing setups? Youd be wasting a slot on your ship so you can test something that isnt a complete setup. See where i'm going with this?

And you cant make this a rig slot item, because alot of people use their rig slots as apart of their ship fittings as well...bad idea, very bad idea. If you want to test a setup do yourself a favor and log onto SiSi or Multiplicity and go to the designated combat areas....

practice ammo wouldnt work. This is why the snowball launchers were removed from the game. People got targeted and hit with a weapon that did 0 damge, but still got a damage message. The attacked party then felt they were able to hit the attacker without penalty, BOOM! CONCORDOKKEN!....

Two things could fix that...

1. Training could be a system like gangs. So it needs to be mutual, if you fire a practice round at someone who isn't set that way, concord intervenes.

2. Shooting someone who isn't flashing red in high sec is known to bring the wrath of Concord. Isn't falling for that a form of Darwinian selection.

But mainly the first point.
i. Invite all participants to a training group.
ii. Form gangs as desired. (can come first)
iii. Find somewhere to do it (stay in same place if you want).
iv. Train.

I just find it weird to play a simulator in a simulator. And by needing to load with practice rounds it means a corp needs to invest something to do so (and hopefully benefit from that investment).
