I'm curious about privateering - or rather, the downsides of privateering and how to overcome them. I am quite new to this very entertaining universe with only a few months worth of training under my belt, however since I've spent this time nearly exclusively roaming about in low-sec I've been able to rack up a fair amount of PvP experience. I have made many friends (and some enemies to boot), most of which are equally entertained by the hazards of low-security space. In fact, there is but one difference between us - our security status.
To this point, I've been quite watchful of my security status for a number of reasons. For one, I cannot support my PvP activities without doing missions for Federation Navy. This is the only corporation I'm able to do any worthwhile missions for, and I am very close to the point where I am able to purchase jump clones from them. To my knowledge, Federation Navy has agents exlusively in high-sec (please correct me if I'm wrong), which will put me at a rather tremendous disadvantage if I . What other means of acquiring funds to support the no doubt economically challenging ways of piracy are there? I'd rather these didn't involve grinding reputation with another corporation, if at all possible.
I enjoy PvP so much that I'd rather not turn every other target down because it'd impact my security status. How is 0.0 for privateering alone? Would you ever find something that a fairly new character would stand a chance against, or is this region of space exlusively occupied by gangs?

Get your ISK from pirating. Yes , that means you have to be good at it. When "pvpers" smack us for running away from fair fights , we dismiss it , because we don't pay for our ships with easy mode highsec mission grinding / 0.0 ratting.

Ransom ransom ransom.
Anything and everything.
If you cannot keep yourself in ships/mods using other pilot's wallets you are doing something wrong .
For getting empire goodies either use alt or those handy delivery contracts.

Yarr, good luck with your pirating considering you haven't even got the gumption to find the correct forum section. ---------------------------------------------- Piebears <3 Risk Vs Reward.......You take the risk they take the reward. |

Not quite correct. True you could expect to find a thread like this in C&P, but this here forum is "General Discussion" and I should imagine that "general" discussion includes just about everything, no? Or did you just feel the need to smacktalk that badly?
To the OP: You can pay your way via piracy, as Bone said, ransoms are the way forward. Although always honour your ransoms, I cannot stress this enough.

This.
Although I have a tendency to kill ships in belts (and particularly at gates, sentry fire hurts) and ransom just the pods, removes the risk of a ganksquad warping in while you're ransoming.
Always remember to salvage any T2 ships you kill

Gotta be patient though. You can spend a good while killing nothing but t1 fitted cruisers, or having people use unpleasant language when asked for a ransom.
Then you manage to ransom a dread with an Eagle for an ungodly amount of isk and it all seems worthwhile again.
You never know which shuttle/t1 frig will be carrying precious t2 bpo's, or which bs has faction stuff fitted.
Although sometimes it's nice just to get on a faction ship killmail, regardless of whatever best named t1 crap he fitted to it after his e-bay spree. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

Sneaking into 0.0 is pretty easy, and beltrats can be killed by almost anything. There is your answer.

You are wrong. Federation Navy does have some lowsec kill agents. Maison Orinonet in Uphallent is particularly high quality (L4Q17).
How did I find this in such a short amount of time? http://eveinfo.com/agents/. Great site for searching for L1-4 agents. Their database, however, is old and was not updated when L5 missions were added. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

0.0 can get very blobby, very fast. Like, you pop a ratter and suddenly you've got a dozen of his alliance mates bustin' your safespot to keep their local blue and carriers hotdropping on you (please stop dropping carriers on my lone battleship alliance dudes :(). Use a nanoship, take a few precautions, and you can dodge most blobs tho. If you play it safe you can actually turn a profit pirating (screw that), or you can use a PVE alt/lowsec mission hub (watch for probes you fool!)/0.0 rat (pack a cloak for aforementioned blobbing)/trade alt/whatever to support your . Get an alt to move **** for you, and a good corp to handle logistics for moving things like multiple battleships around with their capitals and outlaw isn't bad.
