I assume that most of you have heard about the protests on Febuary 10 and if not there are news posts about it every where and I won't go into it. But I'm curious do you think that it's being protested simply because it's a cult and dangerious or do you think that all relgions should be protested. Certainly every relgion has harmed people. Well maybe not Hinduism. I haven't researched that relgion yet but every other one has. What do you think?

from what I've seen (I'm a UU) I would not protest most religions, even if I don't agree with some parts of them. however the practice of still charging money to relieve your sins, and actually demanding it, not just asking is wrong. Actually it's sick in my opinion.
I personally even see UU as a sort of cult I mean it's all a cult region is culty. However once to push it too far and start hiding your actions and dodging taxes and outwardly attacking people and sueing them, then you got an issue.
In the way you could say that this "church: of sciencelogy is in fact very representative of catholic churches in the 1400's.
Which by todays standard of what is right and wrong isn't acceptable.
at least not in my mind. but I only just found out about the details today :P
small story
my girlfriends family, we have been dating for 5 years and some times they use this catholic guilt to mess with her, I mean as bad as calling her a sult and she would tell me that she believed them. That's HORRIBLE! she has one boyfriend and back then we hadn't even done anything yet. the point is they made her feel so bad by using the god word and other horrible things you should do but are effective. and while today after 5 years it's no where as bad and she lives out her family house and so froth sometimes she'll still break down crying if her parents call her, her can't disagree with them to face it's so bad.
However, stephanie was never hidden away, She wasn't pysical beaten, she was never disowned for being with me, they would just upset and push the limits WAY to far. but in a way they were just trying to protect her.
But they never took her away, hide her, beat her, moved she away to live with an other family member.
you see what I mean? it's still not good, but it's far from being a cult.
and guilt seems to be the only real threat :P
and if you leave, you don't get hunted down or labeled as "free game"
Also is this really about reglion CCP? :P

people are protesting because of its abuse of the law and actions against its opponents.

Scientology irks me because of the charlatanism.
I don't consider it a religion.
It was invented by this out and out bull **** artist with the specific intention of making money as far as I can see.

I fail to understand how it got to the stage it's at myself. I mean, how exactly does someone go about, spurt nonsense, demand money for more nonsense, claim that sci-fi books he wrote are actually depicting the truth and make people believe him.
It really dosen't make any sense.

Meh, all the scientologists I ever knew were completely normal people. I'll assume the ones who you hear all about in the press are the same extremists you get in every religion.

on religion ... the general public is on the ways to de-mystifie it and thus is beginning to see that there is but one religion underlying all which is indeed a spiritual science concerned with the expansion of ones own consciousness based purely upon universal laws
this spiritual science is timeless and has no dogmas
its territory is ... well ... how may i explain ...

eve is like a cult that instead of love bombing it's members and putting up the image that they are kind and loving, they instead hate bomb you the second they can, and have a public image of non-new member friendly and unforgiving.
