If any of you guys enjoy the old Marsters of Orion galactic conquest games, and always wanted an on-line version of this sort of game, I suggest you look up this little gem I've discovered
http://www.spaceciv.com/index.php
It's very much a 'work' in progress, and the 'love child' of one guy. But it's more then just playable and puts a lot of the so called commercial stuff to shame.
It's a damned good little game, a great community, and what is more, it's free. Well worth looking it up.
The latest game has just started up, so you might have to wait a few to get into the next one.
Hmm! For some reason I don't seem to be able to get the linky to work. But any search on spaceciv.com will get you there, or follow the linky from wikipedia

Looks interesting!
Kinda like a Galactic Civilization just with multiplayer. GalCiv2 really rocks and got really sweet AI, but it is a single player game. Today a game without online play really misses out on a lot of customers. I guess the GalCiv2 guys kinda fired back with "Sins of the Solar Empire".
Enjoy, and fly safe..

I used to play that in the first beta and then again in a few of the games in the second beta quite enjoyed the long turn games as I could play it at the same level as some of the other folk on there while having quite a long work day too.
One of them was marvellous fun, pulling off a string of unlikely victories as a smaller civ against a guy who had taken over a series of inactive players and had a rather swollen navy to throw around.
haven't been keeping up with the rule changes at all though once the combat mechanic rules changed so the damage was distributed randomly it took away those survive by skin of teeth battles that made it so interesting.

If you like Masters of Orion look up Space Empires V, the graphics arnt great but it has alot more depth than any other space Sim I've tried.

As with a lot of you, Sins is really eating into my time. SpaCiv looks quite good, although it's forum members suggest it's a real timesink.
