I can fly a mostly T2 fit Brutix within about 5 days. Right now I mainly fly Cerb/Drake/Caracal/Hurricane in gangs.
I think a Brutix would make a better/cheaper small gang ship for most purposes (non-nano).
What do you all think?

The Brutix is an excellent gang DPS addition:
7x Heavy Neutron Blaster II (Federation Navy AM or Void) 1x 10MN MWD 1x Warp Disruptor II (24km) 2x Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I 3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II 1x RCU I or II, depends on your AWU level 1x Damage Control II 5x Valkyrie II
With decent skills, this gives you around 800 DPS, maxed at 900+ DPS. |

Yeah they're nifty in small gangs, but really need to be used correctly.
If you're in a larger roaming gang you'll be ineffective because targets will go pop by your more ranged buddies before you motor into optimal with blasters.
That gank setup posted above is super fun. But if you're using it in a gang thats light on ewar or where you're the sexiest primary say byebye. They definitely work best in mid sized gangs (10-15ish), and in conjunction with wither logistics or with ecm (but thats true for everything tbh).
I love the gank setup, but often find myself using something more balanced just so I can last an extra few vollies.
7x ion ii mwd / point / 2x web (or web / small cap booster) 2x mag stab / 800mm plate / dcu / eanm (or 2 eanm & 1 mag stab) 5x hammerhead
The 2x mag stab variety drops a cool 700 dps with my pretty good skills (the lvl 5 eft warrior fit shows just under 800dps.) This one has nearly 10k more effective hp than the pure gank one.
Using the small cap booster is funny I know. But even with controlled burst 4 & perfect cap skills you'll cap out using everything but the mwd after a couple minutes. Personal preference really, I like it because just a couple 200 charges will allow you to recoup some cap after burning to your target.

Nice, but it's often primaried so medium sized gangs are better. When people have tons of things on overview such as BS's they might overlook a brutix. Rep-brutix for smaller gangs is better and at that point maybe the myrmidon.
Hurricane is probably better in my honest opinion. I love the brutix because it's dps is insane but hurricane has more versatility, does not have to move so much, can fit a better buffer, and is faster. Plus I'm biased because I only fly gallente ships anyway. -------------------------------------------- ôHe who must expend his life to prolong life cannot enjoy it, and he who is still seeking for his life does not have it and can as little enjoy it" |

There is no denying it, the Brutix is fun and cheap. However, if I were in your shoes and already used the Hurricane, I would probably focus on skilling that one up more. It might not pack the same punch in raw numbers, but you have longer range and can engage earlier. In my experience this really come to play in todays PvP, where gangs often are fast moving.
Overall, I think the Hurricane is more versatile ship than the Brutix. Not saying the Brutix is a one-trick pony, far from it!
Cheap small gang boat, yep. The Brutix covers that!
Enjoy, and fly safe..

Although this setup is fun to run in small gangs this is not optimal for any type of fight you want to win. This boat does about 788 DPS with all skillz at lvl5 and T2 drone skill at lvl 4.
With blasters you need a tank of some sort. I personally like to be on every skill mail and be one of the top hitters. The above gets you killed unless your gang's DPS is so sick the guy just instant pops (then you will not be on the killmail anyways).
I run a pretty good tank with 200MM T2 rail guns. With T2 ammo you get about 350 DPS and a pretty decent tank. Not only that but you can fire once you have a lock.
This character only fly's Gallante so i have a good understanding of the race.
