That is bullox. You cannot copyright a common term like Eve, which refers to the beginning of civilization. The term Eve from Eve-Online is not an abbreviation.
I rather bow my head in shame than tell people I play EWE-Online (also pronounced Eww).

EWE is way better even if its a joke. Eve-Online sounds like some kind of girl power or p0rn website.

Not to mention the yanks have now started to patent numbers .... yes NUMBERS.... although they are WAY up there in the 64 bit range and higher the USA Patent office has allowed the patenting of one. Go read a certain modern online and paper based magazines archives to get the idea, its called cables or something like that ;-)
BTW The european patent office threw it out and laughed. In theory, every time your cpu hits that number you can be charged royalties - extreme example though!

hahaha, excellent CCP you got me! And I was on the look out for April Fools Gags all day. I guess since I read that news item so late in the day I'd forgotten to watch out for jokes.
Nice one!

The US Patent Office might well be that stupid - the UK one certainly has been in the past - but it would never hold up in court. Merely patenting something doesn't guarantee you any money; you've then got to sue the guy who uses said something and refuses to pay you. And when you do that, and the judge finds out you're trying to claim copyright of a number, he's probably going to give you fourteen days for wasting the court's time

It was early in the morning when I first read that, and I got a little panicky for a second. Fortunately, I have enough forethought not to simply post nonsense unless I think it through first (just read Maddox's response to his site's April Fool's Joke, and you realize that the Internet is the breeding ground of millions of astonishingly stupid people.)
