ok moving icons smacked me
i get a simple mission in one of my alts and as i get to it someone else is already running the scenario...there are no enemies so the gates are unlocked and i hail on local...no response but hey they may be busy...my query ...will the mission reset before my mission time expires or should i cancel it and take the hit with the agent...no prob either way but with no response i take a trek along the gates to see what i am going to have to deal with
nothing spectacular but i am still curious as to whether it will reset and the player is like 17 months old...(running a level one mission?)... oh well they will certainly know the answer...so i trek along and finally in the last room they are heading for the cargo container...
ah there's what i am after likely and i have my proto cargo scan fitted so i'll take a look
i target at 43km so of course the icons are overlayed and their ship gets pinged and i go ahead and link to the container before unlinking
now is the fun part
there are concord ships all around.. and i mean all around...everywhere
so the heck what i am only scanning
so i click my scanner
and the icon in the supposed middle slot suddenly appears as a missile launcher and the scanner is up in the high slots
further more there is no warning message that i am about to fire on a friendly
needless to say concord wastes me in three seconds
i pod back to the station and stop for a smoke cursing the fact that the gui editors would allow middle slot items to ping the high rack at all but oh well what the hell
i come back from my smoke and there in local where no one would answer me when i was asking them is an offhanded comment about the mentality and parentage of the person who tried to suicide them with concord and how they should haul their self out and find a noob to deal with
ok yeah i was miffed and smarted off back at them and words were exchanged until i basically said watch your mouth if you don't know someone did something on purpose or not..now go do your mission and go on your way
now why in the heck this new release of the client would even allow such a situation to occur is beyond me
i did not try to move my icons
i did not slide my mouse over them
i clicked to scan and a missile fired and there was no warning message to abort it
and yet i get told i am doing something i did not try to do and probably because of my hurt feelings at being falsely accused and mouthing off back at them have incurred enmity where none was justified
then again in truth i had no business sneaking a peek instead of taking the chance of mucking the mission for time run-out
i've been playing this silly wonderful most excellent of games (imho) since dec 2003 though i was never able to maintain constant account status and due to loss of netscape email access to confirm password changes was unable to reactivate so just made new accounts when i had opportunity to play again to at least try to keep up with the changes and alternatives
i have watched it evolve and will never stop loving it
but to have some mere less than two year so called veteran accuse me of gross ignorance based on a user interface glitch whether intentionally enabled even though unused to that effect by me, or some yet to be dealt with tendency for icons to randomly jump racks is really just not a lot of fun
for all the time i played i never thought to post here because i never felt i had anything of real value to contribute that wasn't already being discussed by someone else and often more elegantly than i could have managed anyway
exactly why i posted now is likely because i don't feel like spending 10000 isk to send a mail to ask some (again) so called veteran to monitor local, answer a pvt, or at least find out if something was intentional before running their mouth
and yeah i was just as bad about it
guess its just human and so are the folks who let such artifacts of the client interface happen without warning

Well I will try and help. I will try to answer what I think are the questions and I hope I am interpreting correctly.
1) Yes someone can scan out the mission space. As for running the mission I guess they could. I would petition the situation immediately. I would try to turn the mission in and if you can then just move on to the next mission. If you are not able to trun it in then I w ould say Petition it under mission section. Since this is a leagal possibility, I would ask for the mission to be reset since you were unable to complete the mission.
2) Moving Modules - If you do not have your slots locked it is possible while clicking an icon to pick it up and drop it onto another slot. This effectively changes their position in the overview. It is a massive pain the arse, but it does not change anything, except that you may accidently launch a missle at a target instead of activating a mid slot module. If you had the guy targeted and you went to scan him and clicked the missle launcher instead you would get a warning pop up saying that you will get pawned if you complete this hostile act (that is if this option had not been turned off).
3) Attacking without warning in high sec Is it Possible? - It is possible to attack someone without a warning. One very speculative option is that you have purchased this toon legally and the previous owner had the option turned off so you could attack without warning. Not a problem with game mechanics at all. THe other option is that you, in the heat of the moment skipped reading a warning and pressed yes to a to an attack warning. This is an option because I know that I did this twice when I was first started palying the game. I got pawned by CONCORD twice when I was salvaging another players wreck and accidently clicked an attack module. Because I acted rashly when I and got tired of reading the warning and just clicked yes I got pawned twice for not taking my time.
Well, I don not mean to offend you with this post, just giving out some possible reasons for what has happened. I hope you get deffinative answers and that this does not make you want to leave the game.

Hang on you can lock the slots? Cos they drive me nuts jumping around all the time!

Yes. There is a little white arrow on the bottom right outside of your speed/tank display that if you right click it will give you options to lock, show, hide different modules
