I know there is a map in EVE but is there a more simpler map, like a bmp version that has parts of the galaxy painted in to show the differnt territories?
Thank you all

Here's one. Not sure if it is what you are looking for though.

What would happen is a non-allied player would enter one of those zones. Are these alliances agressive to outsiders?
------------------------------------------------ I have seen carebears with claws and PvP-Lords hiding in high sec space. So AWAY with all those terms. We are ALL citizens of EVE. |

In most cases yes, a lot of them will kill you on sight without asking questions.

So what your saying is, that as a new player to EVE. I can only explore about 40% of the promised universe.

Initially yes...at least until you're strong enough or friendly enough with the controlling factions.
You can enter the controlled areas...there are just risks attached to it.
Rememeber also that EvE is huge. It will take an awfully long time to explore 10% of the universe, let alone 40%

Actually the factions have stuck in some much needed Player content and it works well. Try running through a faction area and getting blocked in a station. Some of my best Eve experiences have been involving these alliances. Don't treat it as limiting you, its an opportunity for some good fun.
I initially felt the same a tad resentful but when you look at it the alliances are doing exactly what the game is supposed to be "player driven"
