Edited by: j2ee on 21/02/2008 20:51:25 Hello everyone,
I want to upgrade my current computer setup. NOT with the expensive stuff, just a decent "OK" upgrade. My computer has the following setup now:
Crappy PSU 2 GB PC3200 DDR400 ram GeForce 7950GT 512 GDDR3 ram Opteron Model 170 (2.0 GHz), 2MB Cache (Dual CPU) 2 x 80GB SATA300 HD Asus - A8N-SLI/Premium, nVidia nForce4
Can anyone please post ideas on an upgrade from my current setup to something a bit newer, which also gives me pleasant flight in EVE.
Feel free to post hardware bits and pieces, i'll look up the prices myself where i live.
Thank you in advance!

Your options are pretty limited. Dual core procs on 939 are Pretty Rare. You basically already have as good a proc as any that you'll fit into that socket.
I dont know whether your mobo has PCIe or not. If it doesn't, don't bother upgrading further; AGP died many moons ago and spending the cash for any AGP cards left would be seriouslly inefficient.
DDR400 ram is not bad, but completley outmoded. Any new mobo will require new ram.
7950GT is actually a very good card, even still today. It wont be breaking any benchmarks, but you'll get good framerates on crysis low, and medium-medium high settings on most any other game.
Your HDDs are really low storage, but assuming those are 7200rpm and 8mb cache and made from a decent manufacturer, will be expensive to upgrade for more performance.
Conclusion: You already have a solid, if somewhat antiquated system. Upgrading will require a complete rebuilt to stay within cost/effectiveness boundaries.

meh im running a similar build..i have the same mobo as you but im using a 4400+ (2.2ghz).. used to use a x850xt and I recently upgraded to an 8800gt.. it really doesnt make sense for you to upgrade your comp unless you want to do a full new build, my current comp runs everything great (with the exclusion of some source-based games dropping a lot in fights, cpu based ***ness)
