...they're from David Feintuch's Hope Saga, about a guy named Nicholas Seafort. It's a pretty good scifi space series, with the command structure based loosely upon that of the old British Royal Navy.

Taiho is the japanese word for great phoenix i believe. Since the caldari are kind of japanese like in their naming schemes I went for some japanese names for my ships.
I'm not really into anime, some of its ok though.

Vexor: Kuroshio (Black Tide)
Vexor: Namikaze (Wind on the Waves)
Rifter: Chidori (Dotterel Plover)
Probe: Hoshi Maru (Hoshi is "star," Maru is "circle" - it's traditionally added to the names of merchantmen... this is also the name of a character in Narutaru A.K.A. Shadow Star)
Mammoth: Shinyo Maru (A more serious name... you can read about the historical Shinyo Maru here. Not coincidentally, I occasionally use to haul liberated slaves out of Amarr space.)

I have gone through several naming systems for my ships, either based on looks or based on the "feel" of the ship or the circumstances that surround it.
In order of purchase:
Slasher - Sparrow (the little wings)
Probe - Razorback (The large fin on the back)
Rifter - Apollo (Was reading a mythology book)
Stabber - Talon (No idea - Now retired and reprocessed)
Hoarder - Shamu (First impression when I boarder it... "It's as fat as a whale!")
Thorax - Jaded Soul (The colour, plus I had to borrow to buy it)
Rupture (1) - Barbarosa (Looks like an old galleon from sailing days, and I was watching a review of Pirates of the Carribian and the narater got the name of the Black Pearl's captain wrong. Sounded good though/Saddly this perrished thanks to lag on an agent mission)
Kestrel - Ma'at (Egyptian goddes of justice. And I just started my Anubis Inc. corp. Now decomissioned and awaiting her fate.)
Rupture (2) - Minator (Replaced the Barbarosa. Again from mythology, Half goat/bull that walks like a man and was nearly impossible to kill, as this ship is intended to be)
Incursus - Cerberus (3 headed hell hound that guarded the entrance to hades. Since the Incursus can fit 3 neutron blasters that are as close range and powerfull as the dog's teeth, it seemed to fit)
Claw - *Not yet named, as I cannot fly it. It will be called the Redemption. I will beable to fly it the same day I finish my college disertation so in a way it is my reward for toil and labour*
Future plans thusfar include a tempest that I have been slowly working towards while consolidating my skill base for it. I was going to name it the Isis, Egyptian mother goddess (Again, keeping with the Anubis Inc. theme) as it is going to be my flagship. However, I am going to transfer the name Barbarosa to it once it is made, as I feel the rupture of the same name died an unworthy death, though it would not seem right to give the name to another rupture.
