Hello,
I've been doing missions for a while now with the same corp and same agents but I have yet to get a storyline mission. I have been offered storyline missions but always from agents from a completely different corp then the one I'm working for. This means I can't get the standing benefit for the corp I actually want and work for.
Thanks in advance for any advice on how to fix this.

You don't HAVE to accept storyline missions. Storyline missions, though, give better rewards and faction standing.

I'm aware of that actually, but I also thought that the corp you work for will give storyline missions every X number of normal missions. The corp I'm working for right now (trying to build up standing so I can get level 4 R&D) missions has not given me a storyline mission - ever. So I am trying to figure out if something is wrong or if this is how the mission system works and I just don't know what I'm talking about.

Storyline agents are scattered throughout different stations, and not all stations have them. Consequently, if the corp you are working for does not have a storyline agent nearby (I'm not sure how many jumps is the limit, maybe 5?) they will send you to the closest storyline agent that is allied with the corp.
So if there is a storyline agent 1 jump away, chances are thats where the storyline will pop up for you even if it is not the same corp you are working for.
If you are really serious about it (I'm not sure if this is even possible, so dont quote me ) Look for an agent for your desired corp that has a storyline agent nearby that belongs to the same corp. Sometimes the mission agent is in the same station as the storyline agent.

The simple rule is that your storyline will come from the nearest agent of the -same faction- at the time you turn in your 16th qualifying mission. There's no obvious corp preference, though I'm unsure how the game decides which agent to use when they're the same distance away.
So if you want those storyline benefits with a specific corp, you'll add this to your mission base selection criteria. And/or manipulate the system by having a special agent that you use for those 16th missions. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

So I assume that what I can do is keep track of how many missions I've completed, and on the 16th mission go to an agent in the target corp that's near that corps storyline agent and complete one mission from him?
My problem is that my corp doesn't have any level 2 or level 3 kill agents near a storyline agents. So my plan is to run up standings doing kill missions and that last mission before the storyline do whatever courier/mining/crap mission that I have to do

Storyline missions are all about Faction standing increases rather than corp standing increase...thus, it matters not what agent is providing the storyline mission....It is much easier to get a standing of 8 with a corp than it is to get a faction standing of 8--that is why storylines are good...every 16 missions u will get a storyline mission which many times is a faction mission.--(if amarr will involve shooting republic fleet ships etc)which will increase ur faction standing for the race involving the storyline and it's allies but lower ur faction standing with the opposition groups. Choose corp for pve carefully..

I disagree with this to a certain degree, I acquired lvl 4 R&D agents quite by accident because the NPC corp I ran my standard missions with kept sending me for storylines with a R&D corp. The NPC corp standing increases are substantial from storylines as well and if you have a specific reason (such as acquiring R&D agents) that can be invaluable.

That is true. However, you also get a major boost in that corps standings. In my case, my log shows that I completed 7 storyline missions for Caldari House of Records - its the closest storyline agent to my Corp Police mission agent. I started with minimal standings towards that corp and ended up with 9.50 unmodified standings.
I do wish it had been Kaalakiota or some other R&D corp though

Actually u get a boost in ALL corp standings that are a part of that faction but if u read the journal mission info for a storyline I believe it always states that it's an important mission that will have substantial impact on faction standing etc. That's why I have standings with corps for which I have never done any missions.
BUT I don't think storylines will give sufficient derivative corp standing increase to use lvl 4 R&D agents without doing some kill/courier missions for that corp first (unless u have been doing one heck of a lot of mission running--lol)Although I haven't done too many missions really and after having gotten to over 8 with kaalakiota I did already have sufficient standing with another corp I wanted to use for molecular eng to use their lvl 2 R&D agents. So if I had been a dedicated mission runner this past year I guess I could have lvl 4 R&D agents with this corp as the requirement not that high......

Just looking at my standings, I have 9.88 standing with the corp I run missions for (Republic Security Services) which I acquired through grinding missions for that corp. My Boundless Creation standing, for whom I have only ever run storylines for which I've been referred from my RSS missions is 9.56. My Boundless Creation standing is solely from storylines.
And yes I run a heck of a lot of missions

Edited by: Iris Lyania on 22/02/2008 11:26:28 A storyline mission will increace Your faction standing by 8.4% (social 4) AND Your corp standing towards the corporation the storyline agent is working for by 21% (social 4). It's phantastic. :) I grinded a 10.0 standing towards Kaalakiota Corp this way. The good thing is i flew missions for Kaalakiota and also got the storylines from them :). Took 2 days to be able to use their best lvl 4 R&D agents that way.

o***kayyy I run missions for both Kaalakiota and Republic Security svcs and so guess I will have to check my standings with Boundless..... And Iris what corp were u working for that gave u standings with KK (although I no longer need same nemore since I got my jump clones with kk)
On Republic Svcs I ran agents over in Amarr or Caldari space rather than minnie or gallente space--as I recollect Boundless has R&D agents also but maybe not the type I need. (oh I cannot check standing info right now cause my game computer went out of state to be upgraded--state of art when it comes back--every 3 yrs gotta update,it seems)

I worked for a Kaala agent and there was a Kaala storyline agent 3 jumps away from the mission spot. I always got Kaala storylines.

Like Iris said, the standings you can gain with the storyline corp are huge compared to regular missions. Whether it's worth it to take advantage of that or not is a different question without a blanket answer. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. Now that I have jump clones I don't like storyline missions cause I like to be able to travel everywhere and an Amarr storyline is going to hurt my gallente/minnie faction standings and vice versa. Matter of fact I have to switch back to republic sec again cause my gallente/minnie faction standing has been hurt from doing so many Amarr storylines via KK...Gotta keep those faction standings balanced--lol

I have to do that every now and then. Been running Caldari missions so I am good with Caldari/Amarr but when my Gallente standing starts dipping near -2.0 (with diplomacy 4) I set up my jump clone and start grinding to get some gallente storylines just to prevent my faction standings from getting completely hosed.
BTW, Caldari House of Records gave me as much as 42.0% on the Shipyard Theft lvl 4 storyline missions and majority of my storylines with them have been Shipyard Theft. Standings
I'll have to start looking for that Kaalakiota storyline agent

Several things to set the record straight.
- The storyline agent will be the one closest to the agent you complete your 16th mission for. This agent must be from the same faction as the one you have just completed the 16 missions of the same level for
- It doesn't matter if you have run couriers or kills, the agent will be the closest to your agent.
- In the event of equidistant agents it is completely random, it does not preference a division or corporation
- The type of mission is also random, you may receive a courier or a kill, regardless of the type you have been running or the division of the agent issuing the mission
Additionally, regarding faction standings and corp standings gains.
Different storylines give different boosts.
A L4 Kill Storyline invariable gives a 8.75% factional standing boost (that is you gain 8.75% of the difference between your current standing with the faction and the max [at this time that limit is +10]) with Social at level 5.
A L4 Courier Storyline can vary. The Storyline 'A Special Delivery' is a courier for 40,000 m3 of material and grants the same bonus as a Kill Storyline (8.75%) Whereas the mission 'Transaction Data Delivery' grants between 2.6 - 2.625%.
---- Additionally it appears these gains can vary but are capped, for example I have never received more or less than 8.75% gains for a L4 Kill storyline, indicating that it is either fixed at that level or capped. I believe it is capped, as opposed to fixed, as I have received variable standings boosts from the mission 'Transaction Data Delivery' {the only non 8.75% storyline I have received since the removal of 'Materials for War Preparation'.
Additionally, the standings boosts you receive with corporations is different, and follows the same logical pattern as the faction, kill storylines grant more, low end courier storylines grant less.
The only strangeness I have found is that one agent of mine gives different standings gains to his corporation than my others. The mission 'Shipyard Theft' grants me a huge 43.75% boost to the corporation I complete it for in addition to the 8.75% boost to their owning faction. [b]However[b] my Minedrill agent only grants me 29.1667% for this mission, though I still gain 8.75% at the factional level.
This leads me to believe two things, as I have only observed this in one of the over 200 times I have completed storyline missions.
A. This agent is bugged OR B. Standings boosts can decline based on usage. The agent in question the closest to a massive mission running hub and, I assume, generates far more missions than most storyline agents.
I have created the following, somewhat large, image to provide some data for those who don't believe me or want to look themselves. I hope you've enjoyed this post, or at least benefited from it, cheers.

There's a lvl 4 kill mision agent and storyline agent in the same station for Kaalakiota in Sukirah. Bring your nighthawk as this agent has eaten 3 ravens from me.
