Now I'm still really new and I've only died twice, but both times I died was to swarms of missles.
Are the only defenses against missles currently Anti-Missle Missles and ECM? Same for drones?
I didn't see it in the Eve DB but has there been any thought of a "flack" cannon so the turrent ships could have some missle D?
Thanks in advance! Never forget, a Jack-of-all-trades is master of none. |

Defenders (missile type) and Smartbomb (ECM) is pretty much it.
Although the heavier hitting missiles turn slower, so apparently you can jink around manually (double clicking, MWD, etc) to get a few of them to miss you.

Speed is also a good defense against missiles. They only go 1000-1800 m/sec or so (depending on missile type) so a fast ship can ignore them. But if you need to stay near whatever is shooting the missiles (such as to shoot back at it), you have to use smartbombs or defender missiles to shoot them down or be VERY agile and dodge them (which generally requires a fast frigate or interceptor).

I use dual med or lrg smartbombs, setoff about 5 sec apart, this will usually take out 75-90% of all incoming missiles. I have not used it against cruise or torpedos however. This is my npc antimissile setup. The named smartbombs are the best if you can find them.

If your in a frigate don't you can use two smartboms like zeus and dreschke said. For a frigate don't use small smartbombs, use microsmartboms, because the cap is more managable. A smartbomb has a 10s activation time so turn one on, wait 5s and turn the other on. This should provide continual denotations around your ship that will destroy 50-70% of the incoming missles. Be careful though because the can drain cap if not equiped with cap relays. Smartbombs require Energy Pulse Weapons Level 1 to use
Hope this helps yk

You can also try absorbing the missile hits by fitting for it, though I haven't tried this in months. I've been out of combat for some time.
Speed always worked best for me. |

Thanks for the info guys! I always wondered what those smartbombs were for. :)

Another idea that I haven't actually tried out is using drones for missile defence.
If you are flying a ship that has lots of drone space (like a Thorax class cruiser - ugly but efficient), fill it with the checpest 50m3 drones you can find. Even if they are basic mining drones. A Thorax could stuff 40 of them in it's dronebay, and a Dominix class Battleship could fit 105-125 in there. At all times when somone is spamming missiles at you, keep as many as you can manage orbiting your ship. At least a portion of the missiles should hit the drones, and therefore, not hit you. This will not work against torpedoes, however, as one of those would prolly wipe out your drone swarm and splash you as well.
It's prolly not as efficient as the dual smartbomb trick and more expensive as well, but at least it won't use any cap
