So I'm new to research and I spent the last three hours this morning looking for a base that had open slots in copying and materials research. None found. In fact, there wasn't an open slot for at least 9 days. Is this the norm? Cause if it is, you can have the competition. At least mining I don't have thirty people waiting for that ONE slot to open up in that one distant system.
I went all over the map using the locater to find research stations. Am I doing something wrong? I really don't want to go to low/null sec to get research done, any suggestions/help?
Thanks

There are three ways.
You queue up in high sec.
You queue up for a shorter time in low sec or 0.0
You set up your own POS for research either in high sec if you have the standings or in low sec or 0.0 without standings but with the risk of it being destroyed.
It is all risk vs. reward.

two more options:
You create a research alt and have him join one of the many research alliances in high sec (e.g. zzz)
You contract your research job directly to one of the members of said alliance and have them perform the research for you.
These two are much much cheaper than setting up your own POS, and with the prices per hour that those alliances usually charge you would have to do A LOT of research (or a lot of copy jobs) to justify POS investment.

Chomin, welcome to the current wait queue for all things lab related (copy and research).
There is a much easier way to check on the queue times using the Science and Industry tab. Open that up and then select the installations tab. From there just use the region wide and the type of copy/PE/ME you are looking for.
It will list all the labs at all stations in the region and you can sort based on time. You can then check info on the listed station to find out if it is high sec, low sec or 0.0

How's that? The lab slots have reservation options? There are no queues available, that's the problem.

Good advice thank you.
And thank you all for your help. The answers I'm looking for are those that require little in the way of expenditure (i.e. middle men, high cost lab rentals, or investing in an alt)
But these are the options? I thought I remembered CCP saying (when I first started almost a year ago) that they were adding a crapton of new available NPC labs. (or was that the drugzes?)

5 days, 9 days...you're lucky. Those are really good wait times for ME slots.

CCP added invention slots in the NPC station and the advanced mobile laboratory for the POS (with extra copy slot at the cost of PE slots). No new ME options.

You need to actually be in the corp that owns the POS to do any copying there, as it isn't possible to start copy jobs at a POS owned by another corp in the same alliance. This is not a standard service offered by most research alliances, though Ricdic may be able to help you. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

For me there is only one satisfying solution for you problem and that is to set up a own resarchpos - a small one will do very well.
If u have the money, factionstanding and time its all no problem:)
There are a lot of guides out there with detailed information about this subject

Yes they have a reservation system, you just submit the job on your chosen slot and it starts automatically in X number of days. You dont have to wait for a slot to become available.
