Wouldn't be cool if you had to use corpses from dead players as a material needed to make a certain component or item...
If there is no market for corpses, then why have them in the game.

Save them with any luck will be able to stuff them and sell them when ambulation comes out taxidermy ftw or maybe they will be a good menu item at bars and grills sweet and sour macro miner anyone? yummm .
On a less disturbing note id say they serve their purpose as trophies for pvpers but being able to pry the implants out of their heads would be nice.

Edited by: EadTaes on 24/02/2008 12:12:41 Well some players did mention that you should be able to get components from corpses that had implants int he in order to build new implants. But CCP doesn't want implants to be buildable in anyway shape or form by players from what i remember. Which is logical since we still need more ISK sinks in this game.
But their should definitely be a market for corps somewhere. Right now their just space junk and extra lag. 0.0 Policing, Econnomic Control & NPC Agents |

It'd just promote (more) senseless podding.

Well, if corpses / biomass was a resource it wouldnt be senseless would it?
Id like to see corpses / biomass as a resource needed for 'body shop' changes in ambulation.

Maybe allow you to remove skills from a corpse and add them to your own list (ie if a corpse has a skill higher than your own level you could perform some sort of process on it, maybe in a station service, and extract some skillpoints to add to your own level, thus reducing the training required to complete that skill). Make it a very small increase, or it would cause a problem. This would reduce the problems of exploiting since if you used a noob alt you wouldn't get many skillpoints (unless you were a noob yourself) and if you used a high SP character you would have to pay 5m+ a time for the corpse (something that could be combatted by making the SP gain sufficiently low).
Alternatively you could get some sort of bioimplant from corpses (not like a regular implant, but in addition to the current electronic implants) that would allow even further improvement with the addition of normal implants and rigs etc as well as bio implants. Make the corpse drop things in a station service (much like a reprocessor) that can be used to build these implants.
This could also be tied into genetic engineering (something I remember was mentioned years ago but has yet to be implemented). Maybe you could extract specific DNA traits from a corpse that are different to your own (like for example if they had different attributes to you) and use them to produce a retrovirus that could alter your DNA (and be like an implant, so that when you get podded you lose it, since your clone wouldnt have been altered).
Just a few ideas, what do people think?

I'd think that extracting the SP from a Corpse whose former owner hasn't insured properly (i.e. lost Skillpoints) sounds like a nice Idea. Or use the Corpse to enhance your own Clone.
Some Framerules would be needed, though.

Imagine you're a hapless n00b trying not to be a carebear but getting podded every time you go into low sec. All so that some vet can have a "wouldn't it be cool" moment of using corpses for profit.
I like the idea of using biomass for something, but I don't like the carebear promoting game mechanic that comes with it.

The following backstory science article has the reason you can't extract skills, if the skill learning story isn't enough to do that already. I've pulled out the relevant stuff and quoted it below.
As near as I can tell, trying to reclaim anything from the corpse's brain would be like trying to make a new cigarette from what's sitting in an ashtray.
The Capsule and the Clone
Quote: The crucial element in the process relies on a brain-scan snapshot being taken at the precise time of death and transmitted to the waiting clone, and so the transneural burning scanner required to do so needs to be mounted somewhere close to the person at all times. Since the snapshot itself causes massive physical damage to the gray matter, there can be no margin of error; it needs to be done at the exact time of death.
Quote: In the capsule, however, things are different. All the equipment needs to do is detect a breach in the pod, because ū as every cadet has hammered into his head from the moment he starts training ū pod breach, without exception, spells doom for the person inside. Therefore, the instant the egg begins to *****, two things happen: the wire-cap on the pilotĘs head injects an instantly lethal nanotoxin into his bloodstream and the scanner sends its piercing light into his skull. Scarce seconds later, he begins the muddy climb towards consciousness in a new body, light years away.
