Here's my take on it the Amarr.
I think the Apocalypse is a very good battleship. It's perhaps not the best, but it's hardly the worst. The capacitor bonus on the Apocalypse simply owns hands down, it's possibly one of the best bonuses in the game if you ask me. The more capictor you have, the better in combat, it is an advantage.
The Armageddon is well, it's just not suited for PvP I guess, it certainly isn't a ship you want to be caught in 1v1. It does do a lot of damage, and 8 low slots is quite a lot of room for beefing your ship up, especially in the damage dealing department, the missing 4th midslot kind of hurts this ship, but it is overall, not a bad ship. I think people are just REALLY turned off by the lack of midslots, otherwise it would be a popular ship again.
People complain about lasers but I don't think it's justified, the only thing that bugs me is that the Tachyon doesn't give you some extra range over the Megabeam, I think it should. Overall lasers do very very good DPS I really don't think lasers use too much energy to fire, really if they didn't take quite a bit of energy then everyone would use them again. It's not like the Amarr don't have bonuses to make lasers much more usable compared to the other races.
Amarr ships do have a lot of turrets, and a lot of low slots, so I don't see why you can't make up for the short comings of a lack of a damage bonus with heatsinks. I mean, lasers are generally better in damage dealing than most other turrets, the extra damage mods and extra low slots of Amarr ships should make up the difference, no?
There could be some very justified reasons to tweak Amarr ships and/or lasers, but overall I think they are pretty effective, most PvPers are currently in love with the Tempest and 1400mm, mostly because the ship doesn't use any energy on its weapons, 1400mm score very impressive hits, it's bonuses are by the best for pure damage dealing, and 1400mm have so much damned falloff, EMP/PP works in most any PvP situation, that's why I think the 1400mm needs its falloff lowered to 40k, which is still twice as much as a Tachyon (though they both have the same optimal). ------
