Hey everyone, I just have quick question. I've flown several Maelstroms before (All went pop due to lack of SP) and I made a vow not to flow another BS (for my wallets sake) until I have 15mil SP. I currently have 12.6mil so I'm getting close. My question is, is 15 mil sp enough to effectively fly a Minmatar Battleship (Namely the Maelstrom)? Thanks in advance. ------- http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/Sharker2k3/Quit.jpg |

I can use a T2 shield and armor tank, and Large T2 guns is next on my list to train. ------- http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/Sharker2k3/Quit.jpg |

Instead of asking the SP requirement, you should ask the skill requirement to effectively fly one (Large Autocannon Specialization, for example). 30million SP is not enough to fly a Rupter if your Gallente specilised and can't use medium autocannon Is.
That said, I don't fly a Maelstrom so I can't say what you'd need to have. However, I do know T2 everything is not required to effectively fly any ship. Best named is sometimes as effective as T2, and with faction you can make up for a lack of skill points... its very cost prohibitive though. Assuming all 15million SP were spent with the Maelstrom in mind, you should have enough skills to fly it without an insane price tag.

I absolutly hate it when people say dont fly a ship unless you can fit it all t2!! its just bull. Yes t2 helps out alot. but do you need to be able to use it to fly your ship? no! when you feel like you can fly it pretty well then fly it.
when i first got the skills to fly a bs i got myself a domi and with a full t1 setup including drones went on and had fun with it. now its all t2 fit it makes things easier, but i still felt safe enough to use it back then with t1.

Back when it was T1 you could lose half a dozen of 'em without a tear too. Everything. Must. DIE!

Your credibility goes down with each mis-spelled word, so I doubt many people even try to read what you're scribbling.
That said, I wouldn't use one in PvP unless you can fit a full t2 tank and t2 large guns. It's as simple as that. If you have tons of ISK to waste, then go right ahead, but I hate to stress the actual improvement of t2 over t1.

as long as you are doing missions you can easly get away with less than 3 mil Sp to fly a BS...with some exeptions ofcourse like the geddon and the typhoon...

If you're low on SP's for the Maelstrom I'd invest in the much cheaper although slightly less able Typhoon or Tempest. You don't need quite as many SP's to run these effectively, and you loose far less ISK than you would in the Maelstrom.

sorry if this sounds rude or anything but...are you crazy!!? exactly how to the typhoon need less SP than the maelstrom? the maelstrom is easier to fit, easier to get a better tank, its basicly the same as the raven but need gunnery and not missiles.

This man speaks the truth. I've got ~22mil SP, including large t2 projectiles and minmatar BS 5, and won't touch a phoon for quite a while. I am fairly confident in my tempest and maelstrom though.

I'd agree. Why fly a mediocre battleship when you could fly a t2 fitted smaller ship. You're much more survivable when you actually have great skills for what you're trying to fly.

While it is true that T2 is not required to fly a ship, Minnie ships generally are quite gimpy without being able to use Barrage at least. Train t2 large guns and you'll be set.

i say fit it t1 and cheap for the experience and refine your setups so you have a good idea of what to fit when you do get t2 experience.
someone with no idea of how to fly a battleship is going to lose it to a hac/battlecruiser/command ship, regardless of t1 or t2 fittings.
even with t1 fittings i know i would be able to make good use of one.
of course people are going to say fit it fully T2 or not at all.
if you fit it cheaply t1 though its not much of a loss and you get valuable experience which is better than more ingame skillpoints.

Sharker: If you were flying any other class of ship, I'd say 'Yes'. But with Minmatar i'm not sure. From what I can tell they're the hardest races to train (Being that they use guns AND missiles and tank in both mediums depending on ship). If your skills are focused towards what the ship uses, then yes. Don't listen to what people say about 'Full t2 set'. It's *******s. I can fly Amarr and Gallente battleships already. I have almost 13mil SP, and I do splendidly t1 fit. Albeit, I can't tank a lvl4 on my own (not completely), but my damage is wonderful and my tank is quite good regardless.

So long as your tanks sorted you'll be ok imo, just fit faction guns & ammo till you get T2. --------------------------
