I think it would greatly help the game if tech 1 bpo's were release into the game by RnD agents instead of being offered by npc corps on the general market. Here are a few reasons why I believe this.
-RnD agents a fairly frustrating and unproductive activity except for the very few luck people. There is a huge investment in establishing and maintaining these agents and it doesn't really pay off.
-The current price of these bpo's could easily be maintained by releasing the item when the price climbs above base value, and not releasing any new copies while the price is below base value.
-This would greatly help to move to a more player based interactive economy.
-Those players going directly for Tech II component would have a greater chance since many would be lured by the offers of the tech 1's and thus would have thier RP's significantly decreased.
-The better bpo's could have a min RP amount needed to accuire these items.
So in essense this could make RnD an actually profitable endevor while still not alterating the value of the bpo's in question.
Please I'd like to hear any constuctive comments and ideas on this.

Tech I is the most basic form of technology in the universe, and should be available to all to purchase and build...think of it this way...the patent has expired and everyone can make their own. In the same regard, I think the "patent" should expire on any bpo within 2-3 months after they are first released, and then they are placed on the market like Tech I. This would "force" the players that get the blueprints to "get their time investment" back by putting the items on the market for the rest of the players to consume, OR, it would give them time to fully research the blueprint ahead of the rest of the universe, so when the BPO becomes readily available, they already are the most efficient at it, and nobody can easily compete with them in price for some time.

Edited by: BlueNoise on 04/04/2004 06:25:54 When someone is offered a bpo through an RnD agent they aren't forced to accept it, they may turn it down, and wait for another one, or they may sell it on the market. Thus there is no forcing someone to sell a particular bpo or invest any time in it. As long as a proper supply of this bp is maintained it is still readily available to anyone, on the market with the funds to afford it. Also all these tech 1 bpo's are already available on the market thus the person getting it has no time advantage over anyone else.
Plus I'd like to add that this should probably work mainly for vailable bpos not for small ammo ones.

One of the greatest potentials about the tech II system is that it encourages corporations to interact and deal with each other. Instead of just becoming complete autonomous systems that have barley any need to interact with each other. Placing bpo's available on the market after 2 months would also make research pretty much worthless. The investment that goes into research is worth far more then a mere 2 month lead. This is ment to be a multiplayer and interactive game not one where players merely amass more and more isk so they can goto the automated store and buy more randomly spawning items. I'd like to see an interesting economy that you can "play" instead of just following another boring progression treadmill.
