I've been experiencing random disconnects for the last few days. Especially this last weekend. I called my ISP and they said that my modem and connection was fine. I just want to know if it's client or CCP servers that are having the problem. I am located in Canada.

Same here dude, from the states. No idea why, but has been happening for about four days for me. Disconnects every two hours or so.

No, not really. Exactly same behavior from the client. I am not an uber gaming expert, of course, but I used to work as tech support in my younger days. So I observe, that:
- While there have always been people complaining about disconnects, there seems to be an increase of connection problems since last Friday (22/02/08).
- The issue persists, despite traceroute showing nice and clean connection to the host (several people reported that). Needless to say, there are no firewalls involved in these cases, telnet to TQ:26000 works like a charm (many users have still to confirm that).
- There are several common symptoms. A) server status showing "Unknown", B)disconnect after 5-20 minutes of play in case the client is able to connect and C) when the client manages to connect, launching another client (second, in some cases third) leads to disconnection of previously connected client(s).
- Geographical location does not matter. Eastern Europe, Ireland, Canada have reported the same problem.
- OS changes (re-installation, switching to another OS), fresh client installation, cache purging, switching off anti-virus, software firewalls and so on do not resolve the issue.
For the time being, there is no satisfactory answer about the cause of these problems. The only thing we can do (apart from whining) is to try and and narrow the range of factors. Basically, we need information from all relevant cases on:
I. Connection status, preferably by pasting pingpointer trace results (taking several samples with more than 100 queries is a good idea) II. Whether or not telnet to 87.237.38.200:26000 is successful (Start -> Run -> telnet 87.237.38.200 26000) III. Are you able to connect with EVE client at all? IV. For how long do you manage to stay connected with a single client? V. Whether launching additional clients leads to disconnection of previously launched clients. VI. Are you behind a NAT/router (which?) VII. Do you use any software firewall: Windows default, other (which?)
If we collect some data on these items, it *might* change CCP's opinion that this is a "system clock" issue, like they said on my petition (and I use that name as an allegory).

So, here go my answers:
I. Connection status:
Target Name: N/A IP: 87.237.38.200 Date/Time: 26/02/2008 14:46:49 to 26/02/2008 18:56:33

Sample size is 1000 queries. Packet loss does not exceed 2.8%. With some samples the trace is perfectly clean (0% loss on all hops), but the issue persists.
II. Whether or not telnet to 87.237.38.200:26000 is successful.
Yes, successful and quick. Telnet shows ffffff►@♦у┴LIVE@ccp at the end (guess this is login prompt).
III. Are you able to connect with EVE client at all?
Yes. Sometimes I have to leave the client running in order to get server status changed from "Unknown" to normal one in order to connect. Sometimes the client connects even during the "Unknown" state.
IV. For how long do you manage to stay connected with a single client?
5 to 20 minutes.
V. Whether launching additional clients leads to disconnection of previously launched clients.
Yes, launching the second client disconnects the first one within one minute. Relaunching the first one accomplishes the reverse.
VI. Are you behind a NAT/router (which?) A router with NAT (no additional firewall). Nothing has changed with the router in the last year, it worked fine before.
VII. Do you use any software firewall: Windows default, other (which?) I have switched all firewalls off. Nada, zip.
Oh yeah, and my system clock is fine.

I've been having the exact same problem for the last two weeks. I do a lot of online activity and EVE is the only app I've seen behaving this way. I'm usually pretty tollerant of issues like this, but being kicked off after ~20 minutes of playing on a regular basis is definatly trying my patience.
Regardless where the problem lies, my end, ccp's or somewhere inbetween, right now I can't play the game. As much as I love the game I won't pay for something I can't play. ----- I BAF |

It will be extremely difficult for CCP to do anything about it, unless there is some concrete technical information.

yea its because of the port my isp started to do this as soon as i did the swtich over to the World of Warcraft port it was fine.
This is the fixed i used
Find your eve shortcut and put /end /server:87.237.38.200:3724 this onto the end of it so it should look something like
"C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" /end /server:87.237.38.200:3724
when you are done.

if i leave the clients running they just stop updating, then whenever i get information (like open the character sheet) the client says 'connection terminated'

VI. Yes a D-Link Extreme G wireless router but directly plugged into it
VII. Yes, Windows and Norton Internet Security
I have gotten random disconnects before and it was fixed with the next Eve patch. This time my disconnects start right after I updated Eve last week. I also updated my .net framework to version 3.0 shortly afterwards as well through windows update (had it set to inform me of a d/l but it auto updated without notifying me)
I am getting to the point in this game that I am thinking I am wasting money paying for a service I can't play and thus don't enjoy. The game is great when it is working properly. But I have noticed in the time I have played that some of the patches that occur are "knee jerk" reactions to people in the forums "whinning" about something. Maybe more time should be taken in evaluating the problems, writing/testing the new code before it is posted as a patch. I know sometimes it is a requirement to get it out fast to stop an exploit or bug...but if you are doing it for that reason don't try to patch something that doesn't need to be patched yet until you have had time to make it right.

Duh, that is really frustrating. Not so much the disconnects themselves, but the inability to figure out the issue. I mean, there are no problematic symptoms at all. Of course, trace (ICMP afaik) uses different ports than EVE (TCP/IP), and priority for trace and ping might be higher. Departing from that theory I have called my ISP, which kindly agreed to boost the priority of EVE traffic on his router (ain't he sweet).
Logging in EVE all full of hope... na-ah. I mean, there is no way to verify it, but I have a (very subjective) feeling that both connection and server status requests are now somewhat faster, but the disconnects remain nevertheless.
Funny thing, I have tried another ISP with a 28.8 modem. While packet loss was beyond 10%, latency over 250, the connection still held! I mean WTF, clean connection drops it, terrible connection holds it. Confused.

Hi ppl
I have this problem for more then 4 months so I am veteran in that war and I heard lots of possibile solutions or causes of that issue.
The problem is so flustrating coz it is really random.
One thing I know for certain. ISP counts. I am from Poland and I have chello. Only my friends using chello have that issue. It might be that only the faster isp have that problems. My friend had that issue and chenged over 3 diffrent isp and the problem is gone!!! Also he even checked and connected using internet from his mobile phone and he could connect and stay connected!!! My problems started when I swiched from 1,5MBit to 4MBit. Some ppl said that they could extend their time bitween dc when they download stuff in background. Check it out. The problem with checking is in my case that sometimes I can be logged for 2h and sometimes I cant log in for 1h trying instantly. I think we should add to our list of questions how fast your internet connection is. BTW on begining of that problem my client 50% wasnt dc'ing, it was crashing. Smthg like month ago or 2 ccp said they fixed problem with dc and closed my petitions From that moment I only have dc. Someone said that there is to many information to client and he dc. I head that in WOW you have to specifie speed of net.
And I found the same rule as someone befour me. Every time I connect I have more time bitween dc. This rule aplies sometimes and it is existing for 2 weeks, befour it wasnt hapening. It is not a rule but sometimes it hapends. First client crashes on calculating amount of ppl playing, later on character screen, later on entering the game, later 5 min of play, later 30 min of play, later 2h min of play.
Ah one more thing I was using the same ISP for all times. I am plaing 1,5 year now and for first year I didnt have any dc!!!

Hm, dependency on connection speed is an interesting theory. Like I said, I dial-up to another ISP via 28.8 modem, and it holds. There should be a way to slow down a cable connection. Or use a modem to connect to the usual provider. Although it does not make any sense that a fast connection would result in a drop... well, computers do magic stuff sometimes. Or, rather, humans resort to that kind of explanations when logic fails. Voodoo on my ISP please!

I'll chime in here too - having same random disconnects during last 48-72 hours. Not only myself (both clients getting same issues), but also a number of corpmates as well.
Three of us are west coast Canadians (vancouver, victoria) if that makes a diff. Nothing has changed on our systems and yet, crashes are very regular and commonly occuring in <10 min in game.
Trying suggestions with port swaps, firewalls, routers, all no go.

Ok, I know this is usually a scorned-at solution as people tend to blaim CCP for everything (rightly so in many cases) but in my case this turned out to be Comcast.
COMCAST IS A PIECE OF CRAP!! Not only do they block torrent traffic and lie about it, but according to them everything is fine with their service (when i'm seeing 25% packet loss on two of the local Comcast hops).
Switching to a DSL service cleared everything up, now I'm back to being able to play without getting disconnected. So yeah, ISP matters. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the odd thing is, my wife never gets disconnected though she's on the same ISP as me, just a different computer. I came back to EVE after being gone for about a year, and last time I played I had no issues, same comp same ISP.
I usually lose connection when I'm afk and then it usually takes 10-15 mins for me to get disconnected. But it also happens whenI'm at the comp.
Now a friend of mine was having the same issue, but he said when he turned his Eve Premium graphics Shadow Quality down from High to Normal and Cache Size from Extreme to Normal it fixed it for him.
Incidentally my wife has those settings at Normal and High. Could it Be something related to the Cache? Mine is set to Extreme.
I'm going to test turning my wife's cache size up and my own down and see if that changes anything.

Valiin,
Yes!!! I forgot that eve works on my wife computer too. I fought that I found a solution but I fought that on my wife computer works coz it is directly connected to internet. later I found out that it isnt true.
Now I think it is coz on my wife computer I didnt install new content (look) and cache is high on my wife computer. On my computer even if I set old content and no cache it still crashes. Now my new guess is with new content we get some patch that causes the problem. Once I read that someone changed to old content reinstall eve and it was ok but later someone replayed that he did the same and it didnt help. Could someone reinstall eve to new directory and delete old client with cache and try if this solves situation? (ofcourse old content)

I have tried resetting the cache and re-installing the client (although doing these two things separately). No result, though. I am able to get more or less stable connection deep during the night. So perhaps it is just the ISP being overloaded, especially when combined with the success of modem connection to another ISP. Last thing I will try tomorrow is to connect to the same ISP via modem. Otherwise gonna order DSL.

Maxim but I meant instaling game from begining but the version with old content. (classic graphic content not premium graphic content)
On my wife computer eve works and we are pluged to the same router so the same isp

Yeah, sure. Classic content, Premium content - no difference for connection in my case. A peculiar (new) symptom: I have tried connecting with a modem to the same ISP I use normally. The connection stays on! So my problem is narrowed down to a path from my network card to the cable router, up to the point where modem and cable routes converge. It is just 3 hops or so. Nothing changed there recently though. Weird stuff.
My next step would be trying another network card (currently got Marvell Yukon).

Hmmm. My options stayed from yesterday. Classic content and low cache and I left eve idle for 2h and later it was working!!! Updates soon. I work 10h a day

loose all hope :) European players have the same problem from november i think ... especialy UPC users. CCP will say its on your ISP side and will not help you in this matter. The only solution for you is to use TUNNELING.

I have same dc's ... mostly can't stay connected for more than few seconds. Im using 8mbit UPC chello in slovakia. When i try eve from my girlfriends notebook (she has wireless connection) it works fine. However i noticed this problems only after i updated to premium content. I just tried to login from my other pc (same upc connection) with classic content and it still runs fine....duh

The biggest bull**** is when you have several characters on and then only one disconnects and won't stay online, that's what happens to me all the time. It is a CCP problem and I'm waiting for the patch, if it gets worse or there's no solution then CCP can refund me because I wrote a petition and it was ignored.
Ignore connect petitions = not wanting money = CCP can go bankrupt. I'm a Goon Titan alt, don't tell anyone. |

Seems there is no common pattern with these disconnections after all. Hope the patch will eliminate my own problem, but not holding breath.
Pondering at possibility to set up a dual-WAN router for fast and redundant connection.
