T2 is no longer "high level stuff", it's pretty much the standard nowadays. NOBODY uses basic T1 gear anymore, the only thing T1 gear is good for right now is to be used into T2 manufacture, and T1 ships cost almost as much as the minerals they're made out of (in empire, anyway). There's no real long-term randomness in T2 invention, it IS a "sure thing" if you just get enough funds for a shedload of tries. In a way, you just made the best argument AGAINST chance-based invention, at least you'd have an even playfield for everybody.
As for chance, there's already the issue of decryptors... as they can now ONLY be obtained via exploration, and that, well, that's a huge lottery right there (to first find a site at all in the fist place, then get something good out of it).
If it is a "sure thing" then why do YOU want it to not be chance based? Eh? Your logic does not work. The chance element does a lot for invention. It mean that you have to do large quantities if you want to hit "sure thing" levels. This limits invention to people playing thier luck, and those really serious about it. You cant say that that would still hold true if you took random out of the equation. Thats simply rubbish.
And randomness in decryptors cant stand alone as the "random" factor in invention. The process have to have randomness at more levels to take out the "sure thing" factor.
You can still get very rich doing invention, you just cant do it with your head under your arm. And that in my book, is a good thing.
What Akita wants, and I am quite sure many people want too as myself, is to change invention to a system that will give back to people the same amount of runs of the current invention average but without any randomness in the success chances.
For people who already make a huge quantity of jobs focusing on the smae item it wouldn't make any difference, but for small inventors and people who vary a lot in what they invent, which are heavily penalized by the streaks, it would be incredibly helpfull.
