So I used to play eve back when kestrels shot cruise missiles. I hear alot has changed. Was just looking for the bottom line PvP ship updates.
Amarr were not liked in PvP when I left, and Caldari were ruling. Just curious what you recommend for a fresh start with a relatively solo-ish pvp'r.

Well anything that can shoot will work to some extent, easier to get into PvP with a Gal or Ammar pilot, And with more training Min, and Caldari mainly to jam the crap out of people. but just my opinon. -------------------- I'm not not going to pod you! |

minnie and gallente reign supreme in the solo pvp department. Ofc the other two races can perform, but seldom as well solo. This due to plenty of mids and being fast mainly.
Amarr are okish, fully palyable but demand very high sp to be worth their while, and with khanid and nano-fad you need shield/drone/armor/navigation(speed)/gunnery skills.
Fastest race to solo in somewhat efficiently I'd go gallente.

Minmatar = win
Of course everyone is going to have a different view on what race is better in PvP and I know some very good caldari PvP pilots... it's really down to what suits your play style, I don't fly amarr but I have favorite ships in every race... Training into an effective HAC pilot doesn't take all that long if you go straight for it, friend of mine is at only 8mil SP and kills it. It's just going to come down to what you want to do ------------

I also noticed that you can dock directly with a station now, you don't have to putz along for 15k up to it... what other major changes have happened?

well, caldari has become a support ship.
the other 3 races are good for "solo pvp" (the "¦s are there cuz there is no solo pvp anymore, only blobs)
train t2 shield/armor/guns/missiles asap. (ofc for the race u choose to train for, specced pilot is a uber pilot :P)
caldari - mission ships, jammers and support minmatar - hit and run, fast ships and usualy speed tank. gallente - flavour of the year, heavy dps ships, tankers etc. amarr - whine material for those who dont have enough skills to do enough dmg, with right skills its the way to go.
find urself a nice corp and enjoy.
my 2 cents --------------------------------------

ye, ccp took that away so ppl didnt need so many BMs to the gates. so warp to 0 was the solution, but killed gate camping in lowsec :( --------------------------------------

Edited by: Genalina on 27/02/2008 15:20:51 So what is the downside to Minmatar compared to the others?
I'd really like to do some low scale solo pirating, I don't expect to rule the world, just have fun.
I dont mind being patient for amarr skills, if it will really pay off in the end.

Ammar is awesome. Their EAF really kick ass solo. I was unfortunate enough to warp in on one. It killed my cap in about 2 seconds flat, then it was suddenly 10k outside me and I was in a pod.

Edited by: Ruah Piskonit on 27/02/2008 16:34:21 Its been a few years since the cruise missle days. And there have been a lot of changes. Its going to be like learning the game from 0 again really - no more radar, no more tabbing throgh high, mid, low slots, no more multi-coloured shield, armor, hull bars. . .its a totally differet game.
Here is some basics:
Speed has become a lot faster in eve. Its the result of MWD in combination with Nanofibers, Overdrives, Snake-Implants and the lot. In eve, speed is key now and some ships achive speed unimaginable in the past - a bit like oversized or multiple ABs of the past but its standard now.
Warp to Zero has made PvP a lot more consentual but there are now ships that are designed to force people out of warp (Interdictors/Heavy Interdictors).
There is a cloak time after you jump now, so you can sit and wait for a bit.
Stacking Penalty - certain mods suffer from a stacking penalty (such as damage mods and such)
Tech Two mods (T2) is the standard, best train up to them. T2 ships are also worth looking at.
Jita is Yulai.
Capital Ships are worth looking over.
and on and on
My best suggestion is to find your old friends and just start playing - its going to take you a bit of time to get back into the game. A lot of people don't remember those old days, EvE has grown a lot since then.
oh, and EAF is a new ship class introduced a few months ago called 'Electronic Attack Frigates', smaller versions of the cruiser sized 'Recon Ships' (which are not quite as new). . .there are 'racial' Electronic Warfare styles now and on and on. . .like I said, welcome back. ----

Well, you will find out that atm solo PvP doesn't really exist. 1 PvPer vs 1 PvPers is very unlikely, just because of the fact that this is a MMORPG and everyone has friends So there is either gang vs gang, gang vs solo and solo vs carebear. For the gang vs gang stuff, ecm is liked by everyone. Nano gangs are THE win :) gang vs solo, meh. Any ship is fine ;-) For killing carebears or trying to find the rare 1vs1, use a vaga. PvP is about Minmatar and Gallente really, matar for fast gangs (even tho nano ishtar is very nice) and Gallente on the cap level, Thanatos and Moros are yummi

There are still plenty of camps in low sec, even though I wish there were none.
