o7 pod pirates of eve. I hope that you have found/are finding piracy to be everything you hoped it would be. As for me, I'd have to say my budding new career is really paying off, and in more than just iskies.
So I've been in game about 4 months. Did some anti-piracy work while I served in a corp that didn't allow piracy. Er, anti-, vigilante, bounty hunter...whatever you wish to call that profession. Anyway, I've now been involved in piracy about 7 to 10 days and here's a little synopsis of my dealings w/other pilots.
In my couple months as a "bounty hunter" I don't recall ever recieving one bit of smack. Funny, cos much of the time I was fighting other pirates. Makes you wonder?? But now that I'm mostly attacking non-pirates it seems quite a bit different.
So I've managed to catch 4 or 5 pods. Made my first pod kill ever. I forgot to collect the corpse. Also successfully ransomed a couple times. All is well and good. One instance after an attack I was informed that I was a t*at and a w*nker when asked why I attacked. I found it odd that he started the smacktalk while he was asking for a reason instead of smacking after he got a reason so with an attitude like that I had to inform him that I attacked him because I needed his help to lower my security status. He left the chat.
Last night I was being hunted by a Thorax. I was in a rifter and I new it wouldn't be much of a contest since we were both fit for PvP. So I called for a bit of help. Local went up in numbers by a few pilots and the Thorax pilot all the sudden got mouthy. "F*** this and that" Right before he left the system he informed everyone in local that he's sure I'm a "tarp and a half". ??? Can anyone tell me what that means? Cos I'm scratching my head at that one?
So in a week of piracy I'm proud to inform the C&P community that I'm a t*at, w*nker, and a tarp and a half.
I wonder what else I'll be in a couple months.

Sounds like he suspected you were a bait ship (trap), playing dumb, asking for help hoping someone will try and take advantage of you're little frig, then your gang mates warp in and pop them.
Some people are so against pirating, but they obviously haven't tried it. The reason people do it is, it's fun!

It's amazing the kind of names that mature adult carebears with normal social lives and complete mental stability will call us depressed sociopathic 13-year-old virgin pirates, isn't it?
I often see on the forums that you can tell a lot about a person by their Eve profession. I've heard that all pirates must be sadistic nerds who take out our real life aggression anonymously over the internet. Funny thing is that while us pirates will blow you up in a game, we're often more courteous and respectful than our victims. Strange indeed.

I only play when I'm in a good mood, so it must not be me taking out my real life aggression
Because we all know pirates have no life and will never, ever get laid blah blah blah... I love great big carebear tears ------------

No. You're just another rat. And in a couple months, if you work real hard at it, you'll still just be another rat.

I just don't understand how anyone could possibly harm anyone else, even in a game.
Already lost a megathron, brutix, and dozens of cruisers due to the fact that I didn't return fire. I just cannot harm a real player, and I do not understand how anyone can get enjoyment from doing that. I know I'd be terribly upset if I caused someone's ship destruction, even if it was an accident.
And I'm perfectly stable IRL by the way, although I obviously am an extreme pacifist in there too.

Must be a guy thing?
It's a game, an rpg, and people play a role. People play as pirates, therefore they pillage and plunder.
And if people fly with the #1 rule of EVE in mind, all is well.
"Never fly what you can't afford to lose."

Wrong. You lost those ships because you went where you should not. Just because you're a pacifist doesn't mean you're not responsible for your own safety, in a game or otherwise.

You know that when someone's ship is destroyed, it doesn't actually hurt them at all...?
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Unless your older brother plays, and you're flying a ship he loaned you. Then it hurts like hell.

That's not true. While I don't agree with Ankhesentapemkah's excrutiating pacifism, I do want to point out that grinding away for isk and putting effort into setting up a ship and then losing it - does hurt a bit.
It doesn't matter that it's a game. We know that. The little computer spaceship that gets blown up doesn't mean anything by itself. It's the real life hard work and effort that went into it that are painful to see wasted.
If I spend all afternoon grinding to afford a BS and fittings, then lose it somehow in ten minutes like a moron. I will be angry for wasting my afternoon. You see? Tell me you see my point.

Nah... I most definitely could care less about how much of my time I wasted getting a ship/losing it. This is what I do when I'm bored (which is pretty often if you couldn't tell) otherwise I'd be doing something much more productive. The day I call anything I do in a game "hard work" is the day I quit. ------------
