Edited by: Okeanious on 27/02/2008 20:22:39 Hi. I'm a relatively new player, and I would like to have some inputs on a Level-2 Mission setup for my Caracal. I've read the Caracal thread, and I think I've gotten a set-up in mind, but I'd like some input before I pull the trigger.
I've got about 1 million SP, 500,000 in Missle Launchers, and I'm currently training Engineering IV, so I can learn Tactical Shield Manipulation.
I'm not sure if this will all fit CPU/Power Grid wise. Is there any tool that will tell me?
Any/all feedback is welcome.
My proposed setup is:
[High-Slots] 5 x 'Arbalest' Assult Missle Launcher
[Med-Slots] 2 x Subordinate Screen Stabilizer 2 x V-M15 Braced Multispectal Shield Matrix 1 x Medium C5L Emergency Shield Overload
[Low-Slots] 2 x Ballistic Control Unit I

I suggest you train to use Heavy Assault Missilesskill, and use those launchers, or at the very least Heavy Missile skill ---

Actually, Assault launchers work very well in lvl 2's. They are still mostly Frigates, Drones, and Cruisers. You'll see less damage out of heavy missles than light missles on frigates, and about equal on cruisers (factoring in ROF).
Heavy Assaults are great for PvP, but not so much in PvE due to range restrictions and the way missions tend to spawn.

EFT (Eve Fitting Tool) for checking out ship fittings. Though it's not always right (it claimed I could fit my Drake a certain way recently that proved to be off).

Also, go for a passive tank and mount rat-specific hardeners based on the mission targets.

for level 2s, no! assault launchers are fine for level 2s. light missiles have better range and explosion radius/velocity. and easier to fit.
overall looks like a good fit for level 2s, might want to change the v-m15 hardeners for specific hardeners depending on the rats you are fighting though.

Or go with a passive setup
Highs: Arby Assaults
Mid: 3x Large Shield Extender (F-S9 Regolith if you can afford) 2x Rat specific ACTIVE hardeners. (Heat dissipation field and a ballistic deflection field T2 if you have the skills)
Lows: 2xShield Power Relay (Or 1xSPR and 1xBCU if you feel confident the tank holds)
This setup easily permatanks ANY level 2 mission, with the exception of Recon Part 1, where those dread and dire guristas will eat you alive.

Edited by: JohnFarrell on 28/02/2008 22:12:30 Im a new player and thinking about to get my first caracal as well, may I ask why you dont use ONE large subordinate screen stabilizer and replace another one with a 10MN AB II?

High: 5x Malkuth assault launchers Mid: Afterburner, 2x large extender, 2x hardeners (to be swapped depending on NPC type) Low: 2x BCS
L2 missions are almost all frigates, so assault launchers are where it's at. And all that free grid you have from only equipping assauly launchers means you can fit large shield extenders - not just medium - giving you a stupidly large tank, so you don't even need a booster. You can run 2x hardeners constantly if you haven't got the AB going, making your enemies' attempts to break you tank down even more LOL-worthy, and even with the AB on you get several minutes of use. And the BCS are just icing on the cake.

I'm doing level 2 missions just fine with:
- 5 x Malkuth heavy missile laucher
- Target painter (Peripheral Diameter thingamy)
[*]2 x NPC-specific hardener [*]Afterburner [*]Overdrive [*]Ballistc control
I can kill everything in Recon (1 of 3) first pocket except the heavy tank cruisers.
This is not a tanking setup! I swap out the target painter for a shield booster, and the overdrive for a PDS if I'm going up against cruisers rather than frigates (check the mission survival guides). This setup is intended for kiting - I have 60k range on my missiles and I make sure to use it - most L2 and L3 NPCs have a max range of about 50km.

5x best named assault launcher Afterburner, 2x invulnerability field, 2x large shield extender 2x ballistic control unit
Cheap, easy to fit, and very quick for doing level 2's. You're on the right track with assault launchers, light missiles are superior to heavies on level 2's with all the frigs. And in most cases, you really don't need any kind of passive or active tank.. a big buffer with moderate regen and decent resists is plenty. Having an AB speeds up any mission required looting, flight to gates, etc.. and honestly there's nothing else needed in the mids beyond the 2x hardeners and 2x extenders.
