Edited by: Mythrell on 01/03/2008 03:07:38 As far as the rules, arena etc go I, as a fan of the tournament since 2nd tournament, am happy. I think that guys working on rules have made good improvements over time.
Only real issue I see is how teams were selected and from today I can understand why it failed this time (for those who didn't listen, organizers were surprised by amount of teams wanting in when in previous tournaments this has not been a problem).
So, I don't really see a point in such council of players, I think that people who are intersted in stuff like this are pretty vocal in forums and I know that most of the guys who decide these actually read those posts.
Official council would just result in debates and arguments when some of the guys would try to get rules etc to fit their view of the tournament. After all, most of the guys suggested (and who are really intersted in stuff like this) are competing and it's never good sign if you let competitors decide the rules etc. Yes, they will have good input no doubt, but no, I wouldn't let them to have final say on anything.

If you are really going to let any of his accounts anywhere near the organisation of this event , why not simply state how much isk and whose pocket its going into and simply not even run the competition ? This is not the thread for you troll! Do you know who this guy is? He used to be in charge of earlier tournaments and his insight is highly respected and will bring A LOT to this group. Just because his MoM ganked you in low sec doesnt give you any right to use this thread to flame him!

All right then, since Mit decided to lock the thread, I bump this one. I dont think CCP realizes Im not letting this go. It has to be done right and started now! I have met with much hostility from some CCP employees, tbh I dont blame them. However I would like to work with them, than against them.
However if it comes to that I will still take it apon myself to get intel, spread the word, and communicate with the mentioned people apon a final rules tournament. The bracket will be put together, and the prizes awarded by me.
Prizes - entry will be the same. 1 billion per team. A third party can be used to hold the isk, we all know who I am talking about 8). The winner will get 60% of the total isk. Second 25%, and third 15%. Thats a lot of isk if you do the math 8).
I would much rather do this with CCP, instead of against them. However a tournament for the players by the players is far better imo. I also think the isk amount is better prizes than lp. Remember there will be no cap on the amount of teams. so if 100 teams enter... winner gets 60 billion. Of course all rules and arena (which would be the grid) are up to the players.
With or without me guys, your choice. If this alternative tournament sounds good then great. However I would rather assist with CCP, but they are not very open to outside help.

I'm perfectly happy to see CCP receive input from the sorts of people suggested, but don't see any pressing need for such people to be the ones with absolute decision making ability. Realistically a bright and knowledgable CCP employee who knows the game significantly and accepts input from knowledgable players is better, as such an individual does not carry in-game loyalties or prejudices with them.
The group listed is hardcore 'played-since-beta' type folks only and likely to lead to tournament styles that favor such, whether by accident or design. If they've got great ideas, then by all means pass them on, but saying this particular clique needs to be in charge. I don't buy it.

Firstly, I just want to say thank you for all the ideas and feedback posted thus far in this (and other) threads regarding the next tournament. It really does make a difference and help get an idea of what the you guys think in general.
As to the future - over the coming weeks the tournament team will be sitting down and doing a general debrief session on the tournament and how it went, and at that point we will start to look forward, with a view to how things can be built on and improved upon for Tournament VI.
Until then, keep the suggestions and feedback rolling in.
Cheers, Mindstar. -- |

Wildcat, Would it not be possible for your Player Council to go ahead and sort out some draft rules to present to CCP without them accepting your word as law in advance?
surely if your revised rules are that vital then under the combined weight of common-sense and massive public pressure will see CCP implement them. Signature removed. Too large and flashing signatures are not really permitted. Navigator |

Well, ever since losing the tournament becuase of mistaking 800mm repeating arties for 1400mm howitzers i really dont feel like being qualified to make any kind of suggestions.
Joking aside, the tourament was good in general. There has to be some changes, especially in the timing of events as the last day is incredibly tense and full + the point costs could be tweaked some to broaden the range of setups you could bring.
Contrary to the popular belief, i do not see a problem with the logistics. That is, two logistics.. We pretty much did prove that they can be beaten over and over again.
You can beat them both with pure gankage, as well as with smart setups. Thing is, if we lower the point cost of ships - which would allow fleets of bigger ships to fight, not just t1 cruisers - we infact facilitate killing of high tanking setups because of the increasing firepower such setups would bring.
Sure you can always field terrible setups that deal no damage, and if two such setups meet, you end up with a boring and painful match. That however is not likely to happen with more larger ships.
So again, some bulletpoints to take care of: - Cheaper ships above the cruiser category - Limit the number of logistics to 2 / fleet - Tweak the format of the tournament, to accomodate for more teams - Change the tournament to be team based instead of being alliance based. - Tweak organization so that the finals (and maybe even semis) end up being on a different day than the rest of the matches.. At least give some more time between the matches. Since you have to be ready 30 minutes before a match, that pretty much means that after a match has ended, you barely have any time to take a break before you start to form up for the next one.
For the 30 minute rule, it was a nice addition, as it made the whole tournament a lot smoother. Just keep in mind that the players participating are human beings as well, and sitting a whole evening in front of the PC especially in a stressful environment as the final day of the tournament is not something you are looking for if you've gone through it once.

I don't like that list for one reason: normal stuff needs to be significantly cheaper than faction stuff. Want to know why we brought Navy Vexors? Because they have double the base HP of normal Vexors. Who would ever bring T1 cruisers or T1 battleships if faction ones only cost 1 point more?

As i said, the list there is just something i threw together to illustrate my thoughts. You are arguing about 2 points btw, i hope you realize that :)
As for normal stuff being significantly cheaper.. guess what, it is.. just not point wise, but isk wise. So a team will be able to field a set of t1 cruisers with no trouble at all, while fielding a set of faction cruisers might be more problematic for some.
That brings us to the point of 'fairness'. Given that rich teams can field faction battleships and t2 battleships costing billions each match, i dont think that the price difference between a t1 cruiser and a faction cruiser should be reason for much concern.
It's simply the way the tournament has always worked. There were richer teams buying their way to victory and poorer ones thinking their way there. I think this tourney pretty much did prove one thing: isk will not make you win here. With that being said, in my opinion if someone wants to throw away billions of faction ships, let them. Unless its a good tactic, they will just lose them. If it is a good tactic however, they would win with t1 ones anyway.
The "point" is, that instead of thinking about increasing point costs as heard in the tournament broadcasts, they should more like decrease some / more of the point costs, and differentiate between ships within the same class. --------------------------------------------- *Comments in this post are mine and mine only* |

Im my experience, player councils are a waste of time in the games ive seen that junk tried. They either become complete ignored blowhard PR stunt, or they just f things up more. Have gms willing to listen to ALL players, not just some group of el33ts and their biased views. If gms dont care about their players, well nothing you can do at all will fix the tournament then......
Everyone gets things wrong, might as well have a neutral party mess things up than someone with agendas.

Actually, apart from the pre-tournament organization, i would say this was the smoothest one to date. As for pre-tournament, it did come down to CCPs failure to assess the potential ammount of participants, and the lack of flexibility in the system itself.
They both can be improved. The rules itself were fine as well, but some things could be tweaked a bit here and there to make things more interesting / further reduce the chances of fights that go nowhere. --------------------------------------------- *Comments in this post are mine and mine only* |
