Last week Eve made an appearance at the Game DeveloperÆs Conference in San Francisco. CCP sent all of their big guns including Reynir, Dr. EyjoG, and Hilmer; as well as several members of the Atlanta office.
The booth was beautiful, and it was in a prime location. It was black in color (contrasted by white carpet) with several nice Eve posters prominently displayed. Four stations were set up to demo the game with three players invited by CCP for that purpose and a GM manning them. They did a great job introducing the game to conference goers. By choosing actual players to demonstrate the game CCP ensured that it would be presented with passion and clarity.
Presentations were made at the conference about Eve economics and about the Ambulation project. I heard many conference goers praise both, but I saw nothing new in the Ambulation presentation. It was essentially the same as the presentation at Fanfest.
As usual the Eve party created the most sought after tickets from those present. As there was a limited number of tickets (a very small location was chosen for the party) everyone was asking for them. I even saw one 20 year old who was denied entrance to the party due to has age scalping his ticket at the entrance.
The primary purpose of Eve at the conference was not to demo the game but to recruit for the secret project taking place in Atlanta. When I asked about the project no one would comment, but I can report that several individuals were present with shirts on that advertised that they were on the World of Darkness development team. In spite of the closed lips on CCPÆs part I did manage to learn that the World of Darkness project is a MMO project. At present World of Darkness is a pen and paper role-playing, storytelling game published by White Wolf before the merger took place.
If you get a chance to go to next yearÆs GDC in San Francisco do soùjust ask for your party tickets early in the week.

Yes, they are making a Vampire MMO; rumors have been flying about ever since the merger. It is good to see that while that project is going on, they haven't abandoned EVE and are still developing for it. Ambulation is, partly, a test to see what they can do with animated avatars, which is something they'll obviously need for the Vampire MMO.

I was at the party and it was pretty good.
I had a bit more fun standing outside watching the line of people trying to find any way to get in.Man were there a lot of them.

I'm pretty sure CCP confirmed that they were working on, or going to be working on, a World of Darkness MMO when they acquired White Wolf. It was also stated as being one of the reasons Ambulation was being worked on, as it would be used as a basis in the MMO, although I don't know if this is still true.
Still, it's good to see CCP are making progress with it, and that they are still the most awesome company around
