Edited by: DannyMoe on 28/02/2008 21:45:59 Ive been thinking about getting a t2 frig gang (4-6 t2 frigs) together and try to do some lvl4's
the question is can it be done or will we all die?
Has anyone ever attempted this?
its not for isk or anything its just for fun

don't need a friggin mwd to speed tank in a mission... a basic atron with meh skills and a setup of:
1 mwd 2 1 nanofiber 1 od
gets a speed of 1340m/s
Speed tank in a mission isn't like speed tank in pvp. All you need to do is jet out beyond round 50km or so and no frig or cruiser can hit you, and few BS's can either. The best way to run it is to have one guy jump in and grab the ammo, then run out beyond ~70km or so (just to make sure), while having everyone else dart in and kill all the guys chasing. Go for assault frigs first (the ones that cost ~ 22-30k isk, then work to destroyers and lastly regular frigs, then work your way up to cruisers and finish with destroyers.
One ship that is Highly recommended is the ishkur (gallente assault frig) because of the 5 light drones. However, as long as your "tank" can kill any frig that gets too close to him, any selection of other frigs can easily take the rest of the mission as long as you watch the spawns.
The big key here is to kill the little stuff fast and fly in very fast circles around the big stuff and just let your damage loose.

P.S. on a slightly smaller scale, this is how you would solo rat in 0.0, except that this time you have more targets and teammates.

and then the spider drones attack
getting webbed will be the biggest killer. you should be able to avoid some of the cruiser and BS dmg even when webbed but you have to be even more careful of where you are flying.
as for the damage, an enyo can kick out over 300dps on its own if there is someone else to tank for it. also my friend and i did a 4/10 complex in 2 ceptors and managed to down the BS at the end. so i'm sure your frig fleet will be just fine on the damage front.
but yeah, you need to kill the webbers really freakin fast, after that you should be safe unless you headbutt something and loose your speed. oh, wreaks can do that, kill too many things in one area and you will start bouncing off the wreaks and loosing your speed.
but give it a go and fly fun Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

Only real problem is the aggro targets only one person most of the time.
Its not gonna be dog fight simulation.
Anyone remember Microsofts FIGHTER ACE at the MSN ZONE.
That was real cool back in the day.

Tanked some level 3th with my Vengeance. Mostly real tank but some full pull speed tankings :). Even a solo BS is no problem for a Vengeance (maybe two or three with better skills then mine do to the low sig radius).
If you start it with 5 frigs the spiders drones shouldn't be a problem if you take 2+ captors with you wich catch the spiders before they reach the "tank". Or use a captor as speed tank and rest AFs for DPS. If you run just against Sanshas/Bloodraiders use Amarr-Only ships with lasers to avoid amo-probs ;).
Sounds funny :). If you need a Amarr-Assault send me an ingame mail.

Wouldn't a couple AFs pop a spider drone in like, 3 seconds? Not to mention other types of webbing vessels...
I don't think webbing will be a big problem outside of the few missions with Stasis Towers.

Don't know about the other races AS but the Amarrians might be to slow to catch some spiders.

Actually, several L4s have been done SOLO by assault frigate pilots. Getting a gang of 4 AFs together for L4s would insure you can safely run just about any L4, and actually quite fun, probably.

don't know why above posters are talking about mwd's in missions, but the AF/AB speed tank is fully established for just this purpose. if you warp into a spawn with webbers, it might be close (tho you usually get a few secs to start burning away), but for most level 4's this will be fine.
one warning though: if you pull a spawn too far of its start point, it will sometimes drop aggro and start to move back, switching aggro as it does.

My Amarr Navy Slicer with Overdrive II and Gistii B-type can speed tank level 3, haven't tried level 4 yet with it. But pick your missions cuz web = you can/will die. A few AF's should be able to do it and outtrack most Cruiser/BC's and every BS ship really and level 4 shouldn't be an issue. Sounds like fun might try it with corp :D

I have soloed several level 4 in an ishkur. The problem is the missions that has several sentry guns. They hurt SO badly when you are in an af.

Edited by: Helene Troi on 02/03/2008 17:11:54 Ive soloed a few lvl 4's in me sabre... (Blockade being the most fun)
Remember destys and 'dictors if you're bent on small ships, the extra dps is awesome especially against the webbers which they just eat up...
Battlecruisers will be your biggest worry, they can still hurt you.

Tanking level 4 mission against foe using guns is very easy in AF.
I actually soloed some mission against Serpentis in an Enyo, too ages but was not dangerous. A gang of AF with focus fire should have no trouble. -- Heat, easy to burn your mods by mistake, hard to get it to work when you need it the most. Well designed interface CCP! |
