Actually both are correct, however which one you use depends on where you live. Or are you going to tell me that it's color and not colour? --- Honest officer, the dwarf was on fire when I got here! Spelt is the common version in use in British English, though I believe Spelled is seeing some use over here too. Spelled is used in American English.
Either way, both are correct.

On the other hand, capitalizing "spelled" in the middle of a sentence is incorrect in either variant.

I think (not sure though) that when using a word in a sentence to refer to the word itself, that word becomes a proper noun. Hence the capitalisation.

Ya, after I posted I had an itch to look it up on dictionary.com and I saw that spelt is an acceptable spelling. IMHO though it is used so rarely that way and I do seem to remember a teacher somewhere down the line saying it was not the preferred spelling or some such.

Yes i'm sure thats 100% correct, you had no help from the french at all, let alone the fact the distance and the time it took in those days to cross the ocean and the fact England can fit into texas its that small.
How many wars has america won alone.
Edit- The Americans who beat the British in those days were actually British colonials so infact we beat ourselves :p and if it wasn't for the British you would probably be speaking french or spainish as your main language and be predominantly catholic and not allowed the freedom to choose what religion you wish to follow :)
- Is British and proud as well :p
