In the old days :) you couldnt delete your old noob ships, ejecting, and making it autodestruct, was the only way to keep your assets window clean of junk.
These days its when a person wants to give a pirate a present!

some people save their pods doing it if they know they are dead, they can eject and warp away saving their 50m of implants.
Better to autodestruct tho to deny them a free bship. Mercenary | The Azath |

Edited by: Xelios on 05/04/2004 23:11:24 You can get back into your ship. It's useful for switching ships in space or scouting npcs in belts (they won't attack a pod), but beyond that I dunno.
You'd have to eject, get in the other ship, bring it to a station, get in some disposable ship or capsule, then go back to your ship and get it.

It is possible to get back into your ship or another 'empty' ship, just right click (I think) and select 'board ship. Of course, you have to have the skills to fly the ship to be able to do this.
As for it's purposes.....not sure, I suppose various tacticts can be created through this feature. Not sure how long your empty ship stays about either.
'nuff said :)

Edited by: Haratu on 05/04/2004 23:31:38 Here is a great reason:
If you want to get rid of your ship but can not sell it, you can do one of two things:
1) leave a station (preferably in high sec space) and eject from it, leaving the ship for someone worse off .
2) The greedier method is to insure the ship for platinum insurance, leave a station and detonate it... you will get a nice tidy sum. (eve insurance doesn't care who is at fault ).
NOTE: Detonating your ship does not damge or kill you. You will not loose implants. However, I HIGHLY recommend you do this in a system with high security, few locals, and right next to a station.

Don't know if it still works, but NPC pirates wont fire at a derilict ship (abandoned) and they wont shoot at a pod. So if someone was getting close to loosing their ship, they would eject then warp away, to either get reinforcements to clear the belt, or to just get a 2nd ship to finish them off.

One reason to eject from your ship is if you are being held captive by a pirate. We have gotten several pilots to do so. This happens when the pilot does not have enough money to pay our ransom, and would like to cut his losses--we will offer X amount of isk (depending on the ship and insurance level) for the player to eject, paid when we have boarded and docked the ship. This used to work very well when players carried no insurance... now with a free 40%, people would rather take that than eject. ______________

I have heard of pirates killing the pod and then taking the ship as well.

the reason for eject to be there is so that you can leave your ship i space.
A common practice is for players to do a two ship mining combo.
You fly out with an expendable hauler, my prefered one is a hoarder, place a number of secure cans at a safe spot and eject from the hoarder.
Now fly in with the pod and get into your mining ship, go out and start crunching that high end ore out in 0.0.
Once you have enough ore to fill the hauler you hop over to it and haul it in without having to go to a station.
The drawback of this is that plenty of players love to try track down and steal such ships, thus make sure both are expendable and move the safespot fairly often.
As for ejecting from a ship to save the implants, there are two major flaws with this.
1: If you eject from your ship then the pirates can claim it making a good profit.
2: The chance for you to escape in the pod is equal when you eject as compared to when your ship explodes.
I am not sure about a third one thus I did not list it as a major flaw but do you actually get the insurance payed out if your ship is stonel? I think not.
So, whats the benefit of ejecting over selfdestructing the ship or allowing the pirates to kill your ship?
NONE!
Never give pirates anything if you can help it.
Often pirates try to convince you that they have some right to do what they do, they dont, you have no obligation to meet them half way ever.
Piracy is a part of the game but its your job to make it as difficult and unprofitable as possible :)

thats wrong. If you have missiles coming towards you there is quite a high chance of getting podded especially if there are a number of enemy ships.
Quite often people get offered more than their insurance+modules to eject from their ship and they do eject. Whether the enemy pays them or not is a different matter. You eject because your ship won't fit through the pub door. You get back in because its nice to float in a pool of liquid while the universe spins around you after you come out of the pub.

Is the following possible?
Set the ship to autodestruct. Eject from ship.
120 seconds later the ship blows up????
Can imagine this being a feature to really annoy pirates.

It happened one time for me.
As "The Negociator" was about to desctruct my Rupture after a jump. As I had BMs and as the pod warp very quickly, i decided to lose only my ship and keep my implants. Well, I effectively lost my ship and saved my implant as the bad bad guy don't saw my pod warping in the explosion and wasn't able to catch me at the gate with the insta-jump! ;)
Hello The Negociator!
Well, just one question.....What are you negociating? I just saw you firing without say even one word! You're really a bad guy! :P Sure you love to read this, aren't you?

About as long as to lock a gold magnate I think :D j/k
Pod probably has sig radius of 1-5 meters. Best elite frig has something like 12 or 13 and my ship 10.
So takes a bit to lock a pod.. so pods are pretty safe to use to scout out blockades and PC pirate locations.

Even then. I just checked www.eve-db.com and it looks like they have the same sig radius as I do. 10.
Takes a bit to lock onto that :P Even in an interceptor w sensor booster.

Large smartbombs are a much easier way to do that job. With some fast clicking you can still save the loot, too. |

Wow 9 ! That's pathetic. Try using more sensor boosters and a scorp with signal amps in low slots. Or a Tempest..

Polaris ships cant be killed, and with no ability to fit weapons and 99.9% resitanced to every damage type, how would you have a battle?

one ploaris ship does havae a turret slot, saw one camping a gate in yulai once, the frig have the grid and cpu to fit even the largest weapon, prob not a good idea to attack him. (i think it was a while back when the yulai gate was fubar just after castors release)
