Is there a use for this ship? I've tried a lot of different things, and it just sucks for everything.
It can do "ok" DPS if setup with rockets and a single damage mod, but then you have to fit a resistance amplifier (which sucks) instead of a shield hardener due to CPU limits (assuming a shield booster, afterburner, and another hardener). Two damage mods is just out of the question.
But with the rocket setup, you're dangerously close to web range...and overheated web can easily catch you. So orbitting big ships isn't really an option here.
The safest setup I've found was with standard missiles....but then it becomes a weak crow (no speed tank really, but almost same dps).
I hear of an assault ship, which shall remain unnamed, that can do 200+ dps and effectively take down BS pirate ships. I wish the hawk could do something useful like that.
I am considering the hawk the weakest assault ship right now.

The hawk is nice for level 2 missions and level 1-3 plexes in empire, particularly if you are mostly skilled in missiles. Besides that, you're pretty much right, the dps is just too low to be any good. I'd really like to see its bonuses changed around somewhat.

The Hawks ok for missions and ratting but the Harpy outclasses it by a wide margin and The Caracal is about the same price and you can fit assault launchers instead of just standards, I wouldn't mind seeing the Hawk buffed up a little maybe an extra launcher or something.

lol in my kestrel with 1-2 Ballistic control systems wit also navy bloodclaw missiles it did around 150 a missile lol and those were light so i could do around 600 with 1 volley its alot more damage then u think trus me i use to run small frig gangs in kessy's to find macro miners and id web and start firing line and id almost insta pop them with 1 volley id get them to like around 25-45%hull so idk if ur guys skillz r way low or ur jus not experienced enough to kno how to use it properly...... i fly all 4 races and am trained in all t2 frigs, caldari and minmatar HAC's, recons, and soon Caldari and minmatar Command Ships (jus need CS skillbook) but yea

Hawk is outdamaged by the Kestrel. I repeat, the Hawk is outdamaged by the Kestrel. There is no reason to fly one, ever, as they are right now. It is, without question, the least effective ship in its class.

I love Eve...but boneheaded design decisions like this make me question its awesomeness. Another example of crappy balance: ferox. How many years did it take for CCP to start doing something to fix it?
I hope the hawk gets fixed as well, in addition to whatever changes are given by the supposedly promised assault ship boost.

uh, you forget sir, the kestrel has no tank, any inty will pop it easily.
The AF is an anti inty ship among other things, no inty can touch them, and they pop inty's.
good tanks. they dont go pop like inty's either.
so you can out damage my hawk with your kestrel, but you could never pop it. but you cant make the same claim.

The Hawk may blow (like all AF do to some extent really) but for a long time the ferox had a role as a heavily tanked missile platform (almost nobody used rails :() until the drake came out and vastly outperformed it in this role.

I can outdamage and outtank your Hawk with my Caracal at the cost of taking two more seconds to lock. Or I could fit a sensor booster and even take away that advantage. Takes less training to do effectively, and it's cheaper too.
What is the point of the Hawk, other that looking really cool? (It does look really good  )

I tried to make the Hawk work a few times before dismissing it and moving on.
Wish I had those SP in something else, but at least it wasn't that much of a waste.
If you end up with a fit or role that is useful for something let us know.

lol, I'm sure your 90-110 dps is faaantastic compared to a mediocre cruiser that has a higher alpha as well as at least 2x more dps.
You didn't kill a BC with your hawk unless they were afk. |

You can only kill a noob BC and you can also kill noob BCs in a Rifter, If the pilot has the slightest idea of how to fit and fly his ship your never gonna do it.

A Hawk is good for suiciding and then salvaging the preety T2 wreck in hopes of T2 salvage.

Forget the Kestrel, the Hawk is completely dominated by the Caracal. Rocket Hawks are terrible, you have low dps, short range, and your rockets are too slow to hit any decent inty pilot. The only vaguely "useful" Hawk setup is precision lights for chasing off interceptors, and the Caracal with T2 assault launchers does this job far better in every way, for less cost.
So no, there is no reason to ever fly a Hawk. After the Trinity update, you don't even have the excuse of the pretty blue/silver paint, and that's the only reason anyone ever flew one. Even if you have a BPO and can get Hawks at base mineral price, you will do better with a Caracal.
