I just had an idea, not sure if it'll work.
Lets say you and your buddies want to kill some gankers that sit in system X. If you just approach them all together, they'll know in advance and be ready. But what if your group approaches 1 person at a time, then when each person gets to that final jump gate, they log off, and another person follows. This way, only 1 person will appear on the map. When everyone is ready, everyone logs back in to surprise the sitters.
I know this technique is kinda lame, if it works. But lets face it, the whole "display ships in space" map feature is ridiculously lame.

Hmm, exploitish. Best petition to the GMs, to get a definitive answer on that.

Sounds like an exploit to me...

How is it an exploit?
I would consider an exploit finding some way to make yourself not display on the 'players in system' report while still playing. If you have to physically log out of the game, wheres the exploitation? Sure its tricky, but it doesn't give them a huge advantage that a fleet of logged-in players hidden from the stats would have.

about a month ago ccp already posted that a similar team 'log on' tactic to trick unsuspecting players was an exploit, this is so similar that i'd suspect u should not do it.
it is not a part of normal game mechanic 'play' to use logging in and out with your computer to make ships appear out of nowhere to trap other players.

Get rid of blob warfare = get rid of "pilots in space" filter on the map. That'll fix it. It'll cause a million lazy people to quit cause they got killed after not being able to check the status in A2 or similar systems, but it will make frigate scouts that much more important and make actual sneak attacks possible. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

What he said.
I have asked friends several times "Hey lets go to xxx system." Only for the others to say "1 sec checking map" then they reply "Hell no look at the map too many between here and there."

All that featuer has done is made life easier for pirates, that's all and nothing more. With this they know who which mining ops to raid in 0.0 or low sec space. That's all.
But CCP refuses to listen and remove it. ------------------------------------------- If you kill them, they will die!

All carebears in favor of removing this feature, giggle!

You guys have NO IDEA at all.
If the pilots in space was removed, I'm pretty sure groups such as SA, CA and C4 would be constantly moving around in 20-50 players big fleets, with a few scouts reporting nearby systems. If you think it's blob wars now, it would be mega-blob wars, just that you wouldn't have a map on which you saw the blobs.

why not remove this map feature for just 1 week and see how things go?
tie it into story line, say that some nasty computer virus attacked the gate scanners and it'll take a week for CONCORD or whatever to fix the problem.
If it turns out bad, well, 1 week isn't too much time, people can handle it. If it turns out well, keep the change

Dalman is right.
I've thought about ways to combat the blob fest eve has become, such as maybe making gangs OVER a certain size having a neg effect etc, however, then you would just get 10 gangs of ten instead of 1 gang of 30, so that idea is no good.
No idea how to fix it. Evolution..... Just when you thought you were winning.

Naturally I disagree with Dalman and Prophetguru. All map filters need to be removed and local chat as well.

Natrually you disagree, since the strength of your alliance is out blobbing your opponent. That's not an insult, (tho u will think so) it's just the way it is. It's also not a knock, as, hell, not much to do in this game, and announcing their are 5 hostile pilots in a local alliance chat can cause a stampede of pilots looking for some action. Understandable tbh, but not a lot of fun for either side, unless the moons align and u get a somewhat balanced blobfest... :)
Wouldn't mind getting rid of local tho. Evolution..... Just when you thought you were winning.

The thing that needs to be "solved" is the lag in big battles. And if that can't be solved to a satisfactory degree...
It is the nature of war, you mass an army and attack. Its pretty natural to mass a fleet. And what causing the problem is not the fact that people attack together with all they got. Its that they can't do it. * -"You know, we play the "good guys" right? We kill pirates, griefers, retards and general subversive elements in the EVE-Community. GM's have answered us (C4) about this tactic that due to the recent changes in warping away after you log off, they don't see this as exploit any longer. So either your wrong, or CCP needs to make a statement on that that stands before we get 20 diffrent gm responces in 1 topic. __________________________

It could work on people who don't watch the map right. Most times I can tell you what each blob on the map is doing and sometimes even what ship he was before he even arrives in my system. So this "tactic" will never work on experienced players.
And let's face the situation: all of you log on and jump into the system of your prey, he would see how the local chat explodes and warp to a safespot, you've spent more time on the "hunt" with the same result.
