I'm new to the EVE universe. I am getting to the point where I am able to pilot cruisers. I am a Caldari that has around 2 million skill points. I am trying to specialize in gunnery. More specifically railguns. I don't plan on doing to much PvP. I just want to run missions, Lvl 2. I am currently at a crossroads. I don't know which cruiser to choose. I figured the EVE community could help me decide. I am leaning towards a Moa, but am open to other suggestions.

Edited by: Arthur Frayn on 04/03/2008 02:57:28 The Moa will very soon be upgraded to fit five guns! I'd say try that. Later you can switch to a Ferox which is being upgraded by CCP to fit six guns.
Many people will tell you to train missiles for pve, but I say choose your own path. Also, training up guns will be valuable later on. If you ever want to start flying Gallente, you'll have a good head-start with those gunnery skills.

Thank you for the tip. I'll look into training missiles. The only thing is: are they useful in case I want to do PvP down the line?

Torps are wtfbbqpwnsauce... and you can always train the Sacrilege and Khanid lines for using your missile skills in PVP if battleships aren't your thing.
Also, you get to fly an uber stealth bomber that way. ;-) I am looking for a good corp |

Only when you get to heavy assault missiles and torpedoes. Thing is, those two types are poor choices for pve. If you train guns, each basic gun skill(like medium hybrid turret) allows you to use short range guns for pvp and long range guns for pve.

Standard missiles are good for the Crow, and assault missile caracals are the best anti-inty weapons system in the game. I am looking for a good corp |

That's true, they are. But for each missile type, you still have to train a whole new skillbook to use it effectively. With guns, you can get quite competent skills in both pvp and pve with just one skillbook for two different types of gun, like blasters and railguns.

Yeah, but guns require a lot of player skills. You have to micromanage your transversal and need a bazillion more SP in gunnery to make it anywhere near as effective as missiles.
Missiles = uber for low SP Gunnery = uber for high SP
It's sadly very similar to the kind of level progression you could expect from fighters and mages in D&D. I am looking for a good corp |

Again very true. I suppose I like the long term potential guns have, especially when you consider that you can apply many gunnery support skills to all types of gun.

Gunnery skills split when you hit tech2. While you can train t1 hybrid turrets all day long and increase tech1 rails AND blasters, when you hit tech2, the skills separate into Advanced Rail Gun Spec. and Advanced Blaster Spec. (2 separate skill lines). So eventually, you have to make a choice.
IIRC, same with projectiles, artillery and autocannon split in tech2.

I'd give that award to destroyers/interdictors, personally.
